DAVID JOHN MCGIMPSEY David John McGimpsey passed away February 16, 2017 at the Victoria Hospital in Winnipeg, MB. He is at peace with his family. David was born in 1929 and brought up in a large family in Stony Mountain, MB, where his parents William and Elizabeth McGimpsey owned and operated the local grocery store. As a young man David joined the Manitoba Telephone System and enjoyed a long career with the company. In 1953 he married Mary Margaret Buck and shortly after, settled in Winnipeg where they raised their two children, Cindy Marie and David William. He was proud of the St. James area. He kept a beautiful yard and home and planted a bountiful garden. Although he golfed and curled, David was known for his brisk walks around the neighborhood for many years. David volunteered at the Grace Hospital for over 15 years. His love of people and ability to connect through shared experiences made him an outstanding volunteer. The family went on many camping trips around Canada and the U.S. After retirement Mary and David continued to travel and spent many winters away. David was predeceased by his wife Mary in 2013, and sadly by his son David in 1994 and daughter Cindy in 1996. He was also predeceased by his sisters, Irene Dewitt and Kathleen Nordin and his brothers, Lloyd and Robert McGimpsey. He is survived by his sisters Muriel Brothers, BC, Beverly McGimpsey, ON, his brother Tom (Audrey) McGimpsey, SK, his sister-in-law Audrey McGimpsey, BC, many nieces and nephews and by Mary's extended family. A celebration of David's life will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 3 at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. After the reception, there will be an internment at the cemetery in Stony Mountain at 1:30 p.m. Coffee to follow at the Summit Cafe. All who wish to attend are welcome. • David was a good neighbour, he was always willing to lend a hand, even when not wanted, but that was Dave. He always said he had the greatest Neighbours, sometimes it was hard to say the same about him...just kidding, I respected both Dave and Mary. On his s walks, David would always stop by for a chat or a coffee, depending on the day of the week. He loved garage sales, and some of the things he sold me were almost too good to be true. One time he sold me a pair of hip waders, I never used them, but my neighbour across the road Bill, used them when he had his pool back filled, I was told they leaked...too funny...they were probably older than I and almost as old as him...he was that kind of guy...a very good neighbour and a good friend...we will miss your bright ideas and funny ways. - Posted by: Charles H. cameron CD (Neighbour) on: Mar 28, 2017
