ELLA ASTRID BINNS (nee PETERSON) It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Ella Astrid Binns (nee Peterson) of Winnipeg on March 20, 2017. Ella was predeceased by her husband Ken, her parents Anton and Dorthea Peterson, her sisters Kitty (Andrew) and Enid (Ralph), her brother Joe (Eleanor) and their spouses Andrew, Ralph and Eleanor. She is survived by nieces and nephews Merle, Elaine, Denise, Glen, Lee, and Gerald and their families, and close personal friend John Robertson. Ella was born in 1919 in East St. Paul outside of Birds Hill, the second daughter of Anton and Dorthea. In 1943, she married Ken Binns from Esterhazy, SK. When Ken returned from the war they took up residence in St. Vital, where Ella lived until 2015. Ella worked for over 30 years at Hudson's Bay downtown until she retired in 1978. Throughout her life, Ella loved to travel, both with Ken and, after his passing, with friends. It didn't matter if it was a trip across the continent or down the street to Sals, she was up for it. Ella treasured the friends she made throughout her life, and there were many. The family would like to acknowledge the care she received at Seine River retirement Residence and Tuxedo Villa Personal Care Home for their care and kindness. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. For those who wish to sign the online Guest Book please visit our website. Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I am saddened to learn of Ella's passing but am uplifted to see she lived a long life. Ella was a great friend to her neighbour (my mother) Marie. The last time I saw Ella she helped me clean out my mother's apartment after which I treated her to a meal at Sals. R.I.P to a wonderful person. - Posted by: David Donahue (friend) on: Mar 26, 2017
