TERENCE LYNN LEWIS Born on July 17, 1952, Terry passed peacefully at home on March 24, 2017. Terry (aka Louie) (aka Steve) Steele is survived by his loving wife Lorraine, sons Matt, Rob and Mike (Kami) and granddaughter Gwynned; brothers Barry (Marlene) and Wayne (Donna); sister Arlene, and nephews, nieces and hundreds of great friends who were family. Terry spent his life in the world of aviation, from a small child hanging out with his dad at the Regina Flying Club, to an adult with a 35 year career as an Air Traffic Controller, paralleled with 40 years as a pilot. His other passions were scuba diving and the Air Cadet League of Manitoba, where he served as Provincial Chairman, receiving the Douglas Inglis Award for distinguished service and the National Volunteer Service Medal. His devotion to his family and friends is the legacy he wished to leave as a lasting memory A very special thank you to Dr. Kim Wiebe, Dr. Adrian Robertson, Erin, Megan, Kaitlyn, Stonewall Home Care - Michelle Loehmer, Cathy Rudyk, Rhonda Olson, Scott and Santos. Your passion, empathy and care during this time were deeply appreciated. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 20, 2017 at the Western Canada Aviation Museum. This is to be a happy, casual event and at Terry's request, each person is expected to tell a joke - good or bad! In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Winnipeg Humane Society or the Air Cadet League of Manitoba. MacKenzie Funeral Home Stonewall 204-467-2525 info@mackenziefh.com

Condolences & Memories (12 entries)

  • Terry would never go by Terence, it was "Terry" or "Louie", He got me into Air Cadets just through his garrulous and infectious manner. He was a force of nature. We need more like him. Bill Zuk - Posted by: Bill Zuk (Friend) on: May 15, 2017

  • My sincere condolences to Lorraine and family. The loss of a loved one, even if expected, is still extremely hard on those left behind. May the memories of your loved one help when the bad days hit. He would want you to be strong and carry on with your life in a positive and meaningful manner. Keep his humour close at hand as this will make life so much easier for you. Stay strong and know that you have many friends who are there to support you in any way possible. Don't be afraid to ask. Take one day at a time and always ensure you take care of yourself. Treat yourself often. The book that Terry wrote is something that you will cherish forever. Take care and know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. Sharon Lomonaco - Posted by: Sharon Lomonaco (friend and colleague) on: Apr 17, 2017

  • To say that Terry was unforgettable is an understatement! Like many others, I had the wonderful privilege of working with Terry as a flying instructor. He loved what he did and his enthusiasm was contagious to all those around him. He always had a joke or retort that would bring a smile. Even when his illness made it difficult for him to express himself, he still found a way to make me laugh! Terry, you are missed but will never be forgotten! - Posted by: Roger Delanghe (Friend) on: Mar 31, 2017

  • We were deeply saddened to hear of Terry's passing. Terry was always a very conscientious and caring person to everyone and anyone he encountered. I have fond memories of playing hockey with Terry over a span of many years. Terry took on the responsibility of organizing and communicating with the team, and we all appreciated it. He was a good friend to all and will be greatly missed. Our deepest condolences to Lorraine and family. Gerry and Raphaela Lecomte - Posted by: Gerald and Raphaela Lecomte (Friends) on: Mar 31, 2017

  • I like to express my sincere condolences to Terry's family. I knew of Terry as a instructor pilot at Southport but actually never got to really know him until he became Manager of the Air Traffic Control services at Southport. As the Supervisor of the Navigational Aids Department we encounter each other almost every day. He was always positive and cheerful with a sense of humour that made it a pleasure to have him as a co worker. He always had a story to go with every situation and a delivery that made his tales so enjoyable. When his disease began to effect his ability to perform his duties and finally forced him to retire he demonstrated a strength of character I will always remember. In my opinion the world is a lesser place now that he has moved onto a new adventure. - Posted by: Clayton Skerry (Colleague) on: Mar 31, 2017

  • Sincerest condolences to Lorraine and her family, as well as all their many lifelong friends, on the loss of Terry, an exceptional individual with a passion for life, for flying and for his family. I met Terry a few times over the years, through my brother Doug, who is also a former Air Traffic Controller and one of Terry's dearest friends. The last time we crossed paths was at Southport, just south of Portage la Prairie, when I was visiting the contracted flying training school for a Wings graduation. Terry loved the fact that he was as a flight instructor at Portage, and we shared a few colorful stories of our collective lives and adventures in the skies. He was an inspiration to his students, loved by his fellow instructor pilots and a walking example of someone who lived and breathed aviation. I also had the privilege of reading Terry's book, which is exceedingly well-written and brings flying and aviation to life in its pages. He was a gifted writer. Terry was also an extremely courageous person who lived his life well and to the fullest. He will be sorely missed by all, even by those of us who knew him only briefly, but will always be remembered as someone who made a difference in this world. May he forever be at peace. - Posted by: Gen (Ret'd) Raymond R. Henault (Friend) on: Mar 31, 2017

  • My condolences and sincere sorrow to Lorraine and her family on hearing of Terry's passing. I did not know Terry (the person), only meeting him once during Lorraine's and my tenure as bank employees.
