MARGARET WATERS (KULCHYCKI) 1920 - 2017 It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Margaret Waters, aged 96, at Grace Hospital on Monday, March 27, 2017, a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Margaret will be missed by her son Bill (Bev); daughters, Sharon (Rini), Debbi and Wendy; her grandchildren, which she loved dearly, Sherri, Teri, Kelly, Jesse and Emma; and brother Alec (Pat); as well as three adoring great-grandchildren, Abby, Cara and Charlie; and many nieces and nephews. Born in Strathclaire, MB, Margaret was the second eldest of eight children and grew up on the family farm during the Great Depression. She loved a good barn dance, making a ball team with her eight siblings and going for a ride on her old pony, Dolly. Margaret left Strathclaire to study nursing in Winnipeg, graduating from Grace Hospital in 1943. After graduation she moved to Vancouver for work, where she met her husband Bill Waters, an Irish charmer who loved a good song and reignited Margaret's love of poetry. After living in Victoria and Banff, Margaret and Bill returned to Winnipeg where she worked until her retirement at age 62. Margaret's calling in life was one of service; both professionally and personally she valued the ability to work and the meaning that it gave to her life. She lovingly cared for friends and family well into her 90's. She also made sure to have fun; always in costume for the Halloween party, actively participating in the garden club, sledding with her grandkids at age 70 and attending her nurse's alumnae dinners up until 94 years of age. Margaret cherished the camaraderie between nurses. Growing up during the Depression taught Margaret to seek out the small moments in life and turn the simple into special. Holidays and birthdays, tea with friends (extra hot and steeped well) were always joyous events for Margaret, something which she passed on to her children and grandchildren, for which they are forever grateful. Margaret will be greatly missed by all whose lives were touched by her. Her family wishes to express their gratitude to her home care staff and a special thank you to her friends and neighbors at Columbus Courts whose small acts of kindness in the last challenging months of Margaret's life meant the world to her and her family. Bless you all. May we raise a glass! A celebration of Margaret's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 6, 2017 at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Dying with Dignity Canada, 55 Eglinton Ave. E, Toronto, ON M4P 1G8, Suite 802 or Klinic Community Health, 807 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3G 0P1.
