HOWARD MARK HACKSLEY 1943 - 2017 It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mark Hacksley, at age 73, on Wednesday, April 5 after a long and tragic struggle with Alzheimer's disease. Mark is survived by Anne, his devoted wife of 49 years; daughters Carolyn (Erick) Showalter and Katherine (Martin) Schweizer; his grandchildren Isabella and Veronica Showalter and Maximilian and Sophie Schweizer; and his brother-in-law Jim Scurfield. Mark was predeceased by his parents Harry and Beryl Hacksley. Mark was a gentle, quiet, intelligent man with a good-natured sense of humour. Mark professionally had a lifelong career as a meteorologist. He was an avid reader, especially mysteries, and founded the Sherlock Holmes Society of Winnipeg many years ago. He also was a lay reader in the Anglican Church for over 30 years, a connoisseur of wine, a loyal Blue Bombers fan, bridge player and stamp collector. He loved to travel, especially to England. As a young meteorologist, he spent two years living in Germany and travelling Europe with his wife Anne. He enjoyed many family trips across Canada and United States. He also spent many happy times at "Uncle Tom's Cabin" in Clearwater, Manitoba. A special thanks to the wonderful staff at Riverview Health Centre, especially CD 1. Thanks for the caring, the sharing, the love and the laughter. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, April 8 at 2:00 p.m. at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard, with reception to follow. A private interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Riverview Foundation, 1 Morley Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3L 2P4. Mark, you will be forever loved and missed and always in our hearts. THOMSON "IN THE PARK" 204-925-1120 Condolences may be sent to www.thomsoninthepark.com
