Date of Passing: Apr 10, 2017
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDOROTHY HAYWARD On Monday, April 10, 2017, our dear friend, Dorothy Hayward, passed away very peacefully at the Charleswood Care Center at the age of 88 years. Dorothy was born December 12, 1928 to Cyril and Elizabeth Hayward. She was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy but Dorothy never let that slow her down. With the loving care and encouragement of her parents, she led a full and active life. Following her school years in Charleswood, she was employed by Winnipeg Hydro where she worked for many years. Dorothy was a devoted member of St. Mary Anglican Church and involved herself in many areas of church life. Dorothy was a very independent person and, following the death of her parents, lived on her own in Charleswood. In 2005, Dorothy moved into the Charleswood Care Centre where she soon won the hearts of the staff and enjoyed participating in daily events. We are very grateful for the excellent care she received. We also want to express our gratitude to Dorothy's dear friend, Mavis, who visited her every week, rain or shine! A funeral service and reception, celebrating Dorothy's life, will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. with The Rev. Canon Tony Harwood-Jones presiding. Flowers gratefully declined. For those who wish to sign the online Guest Book please visit our website. CHAPEL LAWN www.chapellawn.ca 204-885-9715.

Dorothy was a wonderful person, my Aunt was in Charleswood Home for a time and I'd seen Dorothy once then but unfortunately she wasn't speaking at the time so I wasn't able to have a good visit with her. When we worked at Manitob Hydro, she went once with me to Rainbow Stage and then we had to go home on different buses after getting downtown together on a bus. She never let anything get her down. I am sorry I missed her funeral, I would have gone, if I'd known earlier. A friend just told me tonight she'd passed. - Posted by: Diane McGillivray (Friend from Manitoba Hydro) on: Apr 20, 2017
