Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • My condolences to Barb and the entire family. I met Bill and Barb while working as a mobile groomer. i enjoyed my times in their home while grooming their wonderful dogs. My heart goes out to you Barb and my thoughts are with you. May you reunite with your beloved Duke and may you rest in peace Bill. - Posted by: Karla Muyal (Friend ) on: May 05, 2017

  • First met Slim in 1962 when I started working part-time at old 558 with manager Eddie Barber. Once you got to know him, like a big teddy bear but first encounters, very gruff person. Slim helped out the city police in 1960's when called upon as he was qualified diver, recovering bodies from the Red River, pics and write up in Free Press paper. He survived a serious truck accident with his co-driver Dennis Ruttig on the newly set up Winnipeg-Thompson run. Slim had the northwest Ontario runs to the Safeway stores for countless years. Last met Slim at truck supervisor Murray Hawkins funeral many years ago. He informed us there that he survived death by flesh eating disease and spent time in the hospital for it. A former warehouse manager kidded him that he survived was that there was so much of him. I had a lot of fond memories of Slim whenever we met and kidded each other. Sorry to see you go, Slim, God Bless. - Posted by: colin dederick (fellow safeway collague) on: Apr 18, 2017

  • My sympathies to Barb and the entire family. I remember Bill when he used to come visit when we lived in Beausejour and the family would have a reunion in the summer. I was maybe 7 or 8 at the time and always thought he was a giant - he was so tall and such a big voice. I always appreciated that he kept in touch with my dad on a regular basis and let him know all the news in Beausejour. I'm sure they are catching up again now - he has a large family to welcome him home. - Posted by: Colleen Schmidt (Cousin) on: Apr 18, 2017
