LAWRENCE (LARRY/LARS) MICHAEL LYONS Larry Lyons, age 77 years, of Sandy Hook, MB, passed away at Gimli Community Health Centre on Friday, April 14, 2017 after succumbing to serious issues following a diagnosis of lung cancer on March 23, 2017. Left to mourn his untimely passing are his dearly loved and loving wife of 49 years, Carol (nee Berringer); his "little" sister Kathryn Stroud (Wayne) and Shawna, Rob, Lisa Cuvelier (Troy), Ange and Jamie; his brother-in-law Keith Berringer (Margie) and Courtney Simcoff (Micah) and Nigel; his sister-in-law Michelle Galaugher and Jason Hiebert (Kate) and Rayna Hiebert (Kris) and his 15 great-nieces and great-nephews. Larry was predeceased by his parents, Gib and Winnie and mother and father in-law Edie and Phil and recently by his sister-in-law Darlene Berringer. Larry was born in Killarney, Manitoba on March 6, 1940 and left home at 18 to work in and at various careers/jobs. He met Carol in 1967 on a blind date set up by friends. In January 1968 Carol proposed (Larry's version of events) and they were married on June 8, 1968. In June 2004, Larry wanted to move to Sandy Hook and after adding a couple of additions to the cottage, it became their permanent home. In 2006, Larry decided he needed something to do, so began working part-time for Garda at the Diageo (Seagram's) Plant in Gimli. He "guarded the whiskey" until January of 2017. Larry enjoyed golfing, bowling, crossword puzzles, tasting wine (and drinking it), going to South Beach for the seafood buffet (and playing the slots, too) and truly loved just being with family and friends for happy hours and dinners. Since moving to Sandy Hook, Larry and Carol took many trips by car and by plane to BC, to visit family and friends, the last road trip being in September 2015 to Parksville for Jason/Kate's wedding and to visit cousin Shirley in Surrey. Larry did not want a formal service. Celebrations of his Life with family and friends will take place in BC, Killarney, Winnipeg and Sandy Hook sometime this summer. Sincere thanks to the nurses, support staff, Dr. Rhoma and Ryan at Gimli Community Health Centre as well as Dr. Harding (Vascular surgeon) and the nurses at HSC. Their care and concern were exceptional. In lieu of flowers, donations in Larry's memory can be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9. You Are Finally Free of Pain My One and Only .all my love, Carol Gilbart Funeral Home, Gimli in care of arrangements. Online condolences can be left at www.gilbartfuneralhome.com
