Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMIKE MARTIN October 28, 1943 - April 19, 2017 It is with heavy hearts and immeasurable sadness that we said goodbye to our dear Mikey on Wednesday, April 19. Mike was the ultimate family man, a devoted husband, dad, papa, brother and uncle. He was kind, non-judgmental, a gentleman and a true friend to so many. Mike started his working career as a Constable with the Winnipeg Police Force. He later worked as a Sales Rep with Ronson and Braun but spent most of his career as a partner at BD&M Marketing, a job that he loved and excelled at. Over the years he was involved with the Optimist Club, the Christmas Cheer Board, the H & H Group and Hockey Team and Crestview Mixed Slowpitch League. Mike also loved a fun game of golf with his buddies, but his true passion was the cottage at Barrier Bay. Mike is survived by his wife, of almost 50 years, Lynne, daughter Kristen; son Grant, daughter-in-law Melissa, granddaughters Mackenzie and Madeline; son Todd, daughter-in-law Katie, grandsons Ben and Travis; sister Marilyn Huska, brother-in-law Rick and nephew David; sister Leslie Stevenson, brother-in-law Tom and nephews Paul and Brad; nieces Misty and Marlee Surtees, as well as his auntie Joan Barry and numerous cousins. Mike was predeceased by his mom and dad, Dr. Jack and Mary Martin, mother and father-in-law Major Dave and Marion Surtees; brother-in-law Dean Surtees, and dear nephew Bryan Huska. We love you to the moon and back and will keep you close to our hearts forever. Miss you already dear Mike. A Celebration of Life for Mike will be held from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. (short memorial service at 3:00 p.m.) on Thursday, April 27, 2017 in the A.N.A.F. Lynn and all, we are both saddened deeply to hear of Mike's passing. Our fondest memories of him were of course sharing our crazy Labour Day weekends at Clearwater Bay. Those were wonderful times to catch up with the great friends of our teen age years, and to share stories with each other about the evolution of our lives. Even though we lived in Mississauga/Burlington for decades, those weekends always proved that real friends never really live apart. Both you and Mike always treated us like we were close friends that saw each other more than just that one weekend per year. Mike will be forever in our hearts as a truly kind man with a very quick wit. Blessings to you all. - Posted by: Gord and Marylyn Stovel (Long time friends) on: May 30, 2017

Just reading the write up and wanted to send our deep felt condolences to Lynne, Grant (Boomer) and family. It was always great to see the family coming to the hockey games to support our wee men those long years ago. We always enjoyed our conversations while cheering on the boys and Mike always greeted you with a smile and a hello when we would bump into him at the store. Peace, love and blessings to all. - Posted by: Marilyn, Derryl and Calvin Burdiak (hockey) on: Apr 28, 2017

Hello family of Mike Martin I'm very sorry for your loss. I'm the sister of Jackie Schwab who made a comment here. We went to high school with Mike at Glenlawn High School. I have lived in Idaho for the past 35 years so I am not aware of friends passing. I feel privileged to have know Mike during our younger years. Gosh, do I remember the teen dances and Johnnies next door to the school? Every day we went there to drink cokes, smoke cigs and listen to the jukebox. So thanks to Mike for bringing up that long lost emotion in me. Someone told me long ago "Never forget where you come from" One more beautiful reason of Mike's passing that I shall never forget... Thank you, Mike Donna Dalton - Posted by: Donna Cady (Dalton) (Friend and classmate) on: Apr 22, 2017

My condolences go out to Mike's family. He truly was a prince of a man and will be greatly missed. Always had a smile and a kind word. I knew Mike from Glenlawn High School days and then later used to see him at MacLeods where I worked. He would come to see the buyers there. I always enjoyed seeing him. He is gone too soon. Rest in peace Mike. Now you can joke with all the guys that have gone before you. As we go forward, the rumblings in heaven will be a joke Mike has told and everyone laughing cause he did that so well. - Posted by: Jackie Schwab (Dalton) (Friend) on: Apr 22, 2017

I express my deepest condolences and sympathies to you Lynne and the family. Well, Mikey it's been a pleasure to have shared some of my life with you starting in St.Vital growing up, only to cross paths travelling on the road selling our goods. Than enjoying the times H&H provided, bringing the group together for BBQ's, slow pitch, hockey, golf and fund raising, like family functions. We go back to the old Glenlee CC friday nite teen dances, of which I happened to be the Prez. Anyways, Mikey the journey was an amazing pleasure and we'll catch up later. God Bless Mikey, loved you as a friend. Paul - Posted by: Paul Lagimodiere "Hwy" for short (longtime freind) on: Apr 22, 2017
