ELAINE LOWTHER Surrounded by family, Elaine passed away peacefully on April 14, 2017. Elaine is survived by her daughters Dianne and Joanne (Robert); son Tom (Gail); grandchildren Sheri, Kim, Karen, Derek, Tony, Craig, and Sara; great-grandchildren Elizabeth, Kyle, Eric, Hannah, Connor, Kai, Serena and Tyler; brothers Stewart (June) and Tom (Barbara), sister Lynn (Bill) and sister-in-law Joan. She will also be lovingly remembered by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Elaine was predeceased by her husband Jim and brothers Lavere and Gary. Elaine was the eldest child of Hugh and Eleanor Bowman and grew up in the Gunton area. At eighteen she moved to Winnipeg where she worked as an Eatons elevator operator. Elaine met Jim at an Eatons dance and they were happily married for 65 years. Jim's Air Force service took them first to Quebec and then to Germany. When they returned to Canada, they eventually settled in Winnipeg. Primarily a homemaker, Mum later worked outside the home. First at the base post office in Gimli and later as a drugstore clerk in Winnipeg. Mum and Dad travelled extensively in Europe, across Canada, from Florida to Alaska and down under to Australia and New Zealand. Mum enjoyed bowling (five pin and lawn) and loved playing cards with family and friends. She was a beautiful seamstress and quilter and could always be counted on for a delicious meal or yummy home baked treats. Mum was a kind, creative, thoughtful person who nurtured her family with traditional values, good food, a good sense of humour and selfless love. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She will be sadly missed and always in our hearts. Thank you to all the hard working staff at Lions Personal Care Centre for the loving care Mum received. An afternoon to remember will be held on Saturday, May 27, 2017, location and time to be determined. Please check the Chapel Lawn website for updated information.
