LLOYD PYPER With much sadness, we announce the passing of Lloyd Pyper on April 25, 2017, with family by his side. The eldest of seven children, Dad was born in Lena, Manitoba and grew up in Killarney. In 1947 he began his 37 year career with Manitoba Hydro. From his early days reading meters, to climbing poles at 30 below zero as a lineman, he was proud of every leg of his career. He retired in 1983 as Manager of Municipal and Public Affairs in Winnipeg, a job perfectly suited to his personality. His work ethic was second to none, never having had a sick day. All along the way he made friends because Dad was a people person who was interested in everyone else's story. His keen interest in others continued throughout his life whether he was chatting with the clerks at Safeway or the servers at The Terrace, always calling people by their name. Dad was a true gentleman. Following retirement, he and Mom enjoyed all their summers at the cottage at Buffalo Point. Dad took great pride in the fact that they built the cottage from the ground up, and it was filled with his heart and soul. Many wonderful memories were created playing cards and golfing with both family and their cottage friends. Dad loved nothing more than going on a road trip. He and Mom spent many winters in Florida, California, Arizona, and Texas. He often spoke fondly of their trip to Hawaii and a tour of Portugal and Spain with friends. He loved visiting Kim and Chad in Kentucky then Denver, he often said Denver was his favourite city. A favourite pastime of Dad's was mall walking at St. Vital Centre, enjoying a coffee and a few jokes with his buddies. An avid sports fan, Dad loved watching golf, hockey, the World Series and spent countless hours watching curling with Mom. He read the Winnipeg Free Press cover to cover every day and never missed the 6:00 p.m. news (with a bowl of ice cream). He loved to share stories and jokes from back in the day, and never forgot a punchline. He was a jack of all trades and loved strapping on his tool belt to help us wire a basement or do a house project. He and Mom created a warm and loving home on Brookhaven Bay, leaving us all with a lifetime of memories. Their door was always open to all, and we enjoyed many dinners and celebrations with Dad at the head of the table. He often said he had no regrets and had lived a great life. He will be sadly missed by the love of his life Fran, daughter Diane (Doug Barr), Myles and Darja; Bryce and Breanna, son Richard (Karen), Shannon and Steve Bloom, Riley and Matthew; Lindsey and Ryan Kindret, Theodore; Braden and Kristen, daughter Kim (Chad Utterson), Aleah and Avery. He is survived by sisters Marie Mooney of Regina, Marilyn (Vern) Harper of Minneapolis, and brother Harley (Sharon) Pyper of Saskatoon, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Richard and Annie Pyper, and sisters Shirley Main, Patricia Piche and Joanne Chapman. Special thanks to the wonderful and caring staff on 3E at Riverview Health Centre. A Celebration of Lloyd's Life will take place on Monday, May 1 at St. Bartholomew's Anglican Church, 881 Autumnwood Drive at 11:00 a.m. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Dad's name to CancerCare Manitoba. "You can always tell where a beautiful soul has been by the tears and the smiles left behind."
