GENIE (GENYA) DION (nee BURAK) Peacefully, on Sunday, April 23, 2017 with family at her side, Genie left us to join her husband Joseph. Leaving to cherish her memory are her three children, Gary (Peggy) Dion, Barbara (Larry) Kisiloski, Carol (Marcel) St. Laurent; grandchildren, Keenan (Danielle), Graham (Crystal), Gary Andrew (Amanda), Charlene (Scott), Jonathan (Kirsten), Jeff (Joan), Jennifer (Joel), Michelle (Scott); great-grandchildren, Myriam, Olivier, Vincent, Spencer, Alaya, Mackenzie, Paisley, Owen, Wyatt, Matthew, Taylore, Julien, Eric, Amy, Ben and her siblings, Minnie, Stephanie and Peter. Genie was born on December 3, 1930 and raised in Morweena, MB. As a child, mom was involved heavily with the daily farm chores, such as plowing fields, cutting hay, feeding farm animals and harvesting. At the age of 17, she married Joe and continued farming at the Dion homestead, where they raised three children. Once the children left home, they sold the farm and moved to Winnipeg. Mom took pride in everything she did; she was meticulous when it came to her garden and her flowers. Most of her plants were started from seed in her greenhouse. She always had an abundance of plants that she shared with her children. Mom had a very generous spirit; whether it was doing crafts, such as knitting, crocheting or cross-stitching and giving them to her family, or cooking delicious family dinners and making sure that everyone went home with a care package. Special thanks to the staff of ACCU at St. Boniface Hospital and Riverview Health Centre Palliative Care for their compassion during her final days. Memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street, West St. Paul, MB. Pallbearers are her grandchildren, Keenan, Graham, Gary, Andrew, Charlene, Jonathan, Jeff, Jennifer, Michelle. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Riverview Health Centre Palliative Care or charity of choice.
