MARVIS MARY KILGOUR
Born: Jul 12, 1939
Date of Passing: May 01, 2017
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARVIS MARY KILGOUR (nee PATTERSON) July 12, 1939 - May 1, 2017 It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Marvis Mary Kilgour, age 77, on Monday, May 1, 2017 at the Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach, MB, with her family by her side. Left to cherish her memory are: her husband Don; her son James; daughter Karen (Kelvin); son Jack; son Doug (Andrea), and her sister Elizabeth Patterson. 'Baba' will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her three grandchildren - Katie, Morgan and Demara, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and many close friends. Marvis was predeceased by her father Sieffert in 1967; her mother Mary in 2001, and her brother Marvin in 2007. Marvis was born on July 12, 1939 in Winnipegosis, MB, where she attended school until she began at Success Business College (Winnipeg) in the late 1950s. She then went up north to work as a secretary on the Kelsey Hydro site, and that is where she met her future husband Don. They married on July 2, 1960. In those first years of marriage, Marvis and Don were very busy with sports activities - curling, baseball and bowling to name a few. Marvis also excelled at trapshooting, winning numerous trophies. Marvis and Don also shared many get-togethers with good friends, enjoying evenings together over a great meal and a game of Bridge. Marvis had fond memories of her favourite home of 20 years, which was near Bird's Hill Park, where they had five acres of treed property. It reminded her of the early years growing up in Winnipegosis, and of her family's winter fishing camp. Marvis and Don moved to Richer, MB in 1996 where their daughter and husband had moved only months before. Over the years, Marvis had many passions in her life; her family was of utmost importance but she also had many years of work and enjoyment with raising purebred German Shepherd dogs and Miniature Long-haired Dachshunds. Her kennel name was 'Kilmarvdon'. She was an experienced lady when it came to the German Shepherd dog; her breeding program, critiques and knowledge were well respected. Marvis was a mentor to many, making herself available to newcomers in the sport of purebred dogs. She loved her gardening - both vegetables and flowers (she had a green thumb for sure). Even though the last years of Marvis's life were hindered by many health problems, she always managed (with Don's help) to get a garden in and flowers planted. Marvis was a top-notch cook; there was nothing she would not try, and the family was very spoiled by her culinary skills. Her heritage was Ukrainian/Polish, so her Christmas Eve feast each year, with the 12 meatless dishes, was beyond compare - surely she is part of the Crew 'up above' preparing meals for the Angels! She also loved to watch the 'fine feathered friends' in her yard; Don would fill the feeders and Marvis would get a lot of enjoyment out of seeing all the different varieties of birds that would visit. Besides some wonderful canines in her life, she also had a few beloved indoor cats in the later years, including her special girl 'Meow Meow' who never left her side; they had a special bond. We cannot forget to mention Marvis's love for music, especially the 'old time' country tunes. She had a beautiful voice and often entertained us all with her songs while strumming the guitar. Marvis had many, many dear friends over the years, but special mention must be made to her long-time girlfriends, Brenda and Janice - she treasured your friendship. The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to all the doctors and staff at the Bethesda Hospital for Marvis/Mom's care these past few months. Also a special thanks to Chaplain Larry Hirst, who brought a lot of comfort to both Marvis and the family during this difficult time. In keeping with Marvis's wishes, there will not be a public memorial/funeral service; a private memorial and graveside service will be held by the immediate family only. In lieu of flowers, donations in Marvis's name can be made to: The German Shepherd Dog Club of Manitoba, Inc. (569 Addis Avenue, West St. Paul, MB R2V 4R8). "...there's no ending to her story, Another chapter has begun full of grace and glory. God's called her to His heavenly home, part of His great plan, Although it may be hard, we all must understand. Faith is what is hoped for, things we cannot see, Heaven is promised to all of us if only we believe." Arrangements by BIRCHWOOD FUNERAL CHAPEL 1-204-346-1030 OR 1-888-454-1030

It has been five years since you left us on May 1, 2017. The sadness is always there but is lessened somewhat by the good memories from the past. Missing you always, forgetting you never. All my love forever, Don. - Posted by: Donald A. Kilgour (Husband) on: May 01, 2022

One year ago today, we lost our beloved Mom; the year has passed so quickly as if a blur... the family experiencing all 'the firsts' without you... first Mother's Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter and many birthday celebrations in between. Your chair at the table is empty but our hearts are Forever Full of all the good memories we have shared with you! We are watching over Dad but we know you are also taking care of us all from Heaven above. 'Love you Forever' Mom. LOVE LEAVES A MEMORY Those we love don't go away, They walk beside us every day, Unseen, unheard but always near, Still loved, still missed and very dear. For death leaves a heartache, No one can heal, And love leaves a memory, No one can steal. - Posted by: Karen E. Kilgour-Klann & Kelvin J. Klann (Daughter & Son-in-Law) on: May 01, 2018

I first met Marvis from the moment I stepped into a shepherd ring. Her booming voice intimidated the heck out of me but the more I listened to what she was saying, the more I wanted to be around her. Her knowledge of the shepherd breed knew no bounds and I wanted to learn so if an opportunity presented itself, I would grab a chair and saddle up beside her at ringside. She would be there at every specialty, with catalogue in hand, and crib notes written beside each entry. She wasn't about to share that information but she would help me to identify and critique for myself. I held the utmost respect for Marvis, both for keeping her opinions about each entry to herself, and for spending time to help me learn and form my own opinions. Through this knowledge, I had the pleasure of handling some pretty wonderful shepherds who had pretty incredible careers. To her family, and especially her son, Jack, who I saw grow from a junior handler to a dog judge, I offer my deepest sympathy. We have all lost a pretty wonderful woman. Don, Mavis and I were very sorry to learn of Marvis' passing. We enjoyed the many Hydro social functions we shared with the two of you. Marvis always had a quick-witted comment on most issues. A good and fun person. Our thoughts are with you in your difficult journey ahead. Will Tishinski - Posted by: Will Tishinski (friend) on: May 05, 2017

I have many fond memories of Mrs. Kilgour. Especially the pool at the house on Henderson and the beatiful property in Birds' Hill. I always looked forward to my visits! My Mom (Darlene Ayre) and her were long time friends, sharing many things in common, mostly their love of purebred dogs, GSDs in particular. I was sad to hear of her recent health situation. Both my Mom and I appreciated the regular updates Jack would send. Thank you Jack. She was loved and will be missed by many. My sympathies to the entire family at this difficult time... - Posted by: Carolyn Ayre (family friend) on: May 04, 2017

Condolences and heartfelt sorrow for the whole Kilgour family at this time. I have the fondest memories as a young girl of going to the dog shows with Marvis and her daughter (and my good friend), Karen . She was a super cool Mom and we always had the best time! Marvis will be missed by many but especially her family, who loved and cared for her so deeply, especially in her final days. I met Mavis only one in my life at a dog show (of course) from the comments ringside, we were both lovers of the German shepherd Dog. I got to know her son Jack a bit more as I saw him more often, I know how much he loved his mother and I feel for hm at this time of his loss. So sorry Jack. Hang in there.
