ANNIE MCGOWAN Peacefully in her sleep, mum died April 30, 2017 in long term care. Annie McGowan, born Annie Kakowchyk in the R.M. of de Salaberry on December 19,1925, lived a long, vibrant and courageous life. Her youth expended working the family farm during the hardships of the great depression and the heartbreak and tragedy of the Second World War. Then peace, love, marriage and birth. Annie fell in love with my dad, Byron McGowan and that love persisted unabated until the day she died just a few days ago. They raised three children, Calvin, Edwin and Cecelia. Cecelia, now Cecelia Lipischak, raised two daughters, Amanda and Nicole, with husband Steven Lipischak. I could go on forever with details that would be, in themselves, unimportant. However, all the events that have taken place over the decades reveals that, simply put, Annie McGowan had the soul of a saint but the heart of a lion. We invite all people who knew Annie to join us for a casual meeting of minds and friendship in her presence, at her final resting place on May 10, 2017 at the Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB, at 12:30 p.m. We will meet at the funeral home and proceed to the gravesite together. In lieu of flowers, it is Annie's wish that donations be made to the Humane Society. For those who wish to sign the online Guest Book please visit our website. www.chapellawn.ca 204-885-9715.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Annie was an inspiring and tireless gardener on our street, one of the first each spring to tidy up from winter, and tend her plants. We always said hello as we walked our dog past her house as she swept off her front steps. Ruby Street will miss her. • So sorry to read of your Mother's passing. While it has been many years since I lived on Ruby Street, I remember your Mom well. May she rest in peace and you and the family be comforted in these troubling times. - Posted by: Gord Savage (Friend) on: May 07, 2017
