Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryAUGUST LEONARD WAGNER June 5, 1931 - May 2, 2017 Sadly, we announce the passing of August Leonard Wagner husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather on May 2, 2017. August is survived by Olga his wife of more than 65 years; his children, Wayne (June), Brian (Cathy) and Cheryl (Derek); his grandchildren, Jennifer (Ryan), Janelle (Ryan), Amanda (Adam), David, Kimberly (Scott), and Christine (Daniel); his great-grandchildren, Ellery, Austin, Ava, Asher and Ayla. He was predeceased by his parents, Christian and Wanda and his siblings, Melita, Martha, Reinhold, Gustave, Otto, Ludwig, Erna, Bertha, Irma and Albert. He enjoyed his fellowship with the numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews. August was born on June 5, 1931 in Rolly View, Alberta. Later, his parents Christian and Wanda moved to a farm in Prairie Grove, Manitoba. When August was 13 years old his parents moved to Fort Rouge on Stradbrook Avenue. He met Olga and one year later were married on June 30, 1951. August had numerous jobs and progressively gained experience, skills and training towards his ultimate career as an electrical technician. He started his career at Remi's Signs and then continued on at Claude Neon Signs. He worked at Air Canada as an Avionic Electrical Technician at the Winnipeg Overhaul base and then transferred to the Dorval, Montreal Overhaul base until 1970. He started his 24-year career at CNR Transcona Shop as an electrical technician and retired at the age of 63 in 1994. He was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church for 56 years. He took pride in his involvement in the successful building and funding of the new Trinity Lutheran church on Flora and King in Winnipeg in 1967. In 1995 August's family transferred to Grace Lutheran Church where they are enjoying many years of peace and fellowship with their new church family. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and had many adventures and tales to share with family and friends. He passed on his enjoyment of fishing to his children and grandchildren. He played football with the St. Vital Bulldogs as a guard. He especially enjoyed watching his sons and grandson play football, hockey and granddaughters play soccer. He was an avid fan and travelled across Canada and Winnipeg to watch his sons and grandchildren win and participate. August was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather. He always wanted what was best for his family and he did his utmost to make this happen. He was proud of the educational, career paths and spiritual, faith journeys taken by his children and grandchildren. August will be deeply missed. A service of remembrance will take place at Grace Lutheran Church, 211 Kimberly Avenue on Monday, May 8, 2017 at 10:00 am. The service will be officiated by Pastor Courtenay Reedman-Parker. Thank you to Concordia Hospital Emergency for your support. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of August to a charity of your choice or Grace Lutheran Church. I was sad to see this obituary. Olga, you and August were good friends to my Mom and Dad and shared some good times. You were lucky to have your husband for so long. Wayne, Brian, and Cheryl - my sympathies to all of you. A good life lives on in our memories. You'll find yourselves, even years from now, saying "Dad would have (liked this, got a kick out of that, had something so say about that, . . ."
