DR. ESTHER VIOLET YAMADA (nee WONG) July 19, 1923 - May 4, 2017 In Loving Memory Esther's family sadly announces the passing of a brilliant, courageous and passionate woman. Esther was the youngest of eight children (siblings Victor, Mary Mark, Clara Lee, Norman, George, William, Gretta Grant) born in London, Ontario of parents Lem and Toye Chin Wong. Gretta and cousin Henry Wong survive her. Esther attended Western University (BSc), McGill (MSc) and Western again where her studies culminated in her achievement of PhD in Biochemistry. She was a respected researcher and Professor Emerita at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Manitoba. Esther is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, Joshua T. Yamada, her daughter Catherine R. Yamada, son-in-law Gordon W. Swan, and granddaughter Emily B. Swan. Predeceased was Esther's first husband, Samuel I. Yamada in 1966. A memorial service will be held in Esther's honour at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard.
