Date of Passing: May 06, 2017
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryTAMMY LYNN WRIGHT 1966 - 2017 Tammy Lynn Wright was born in Winnipeg in April 1966 to Christina Wright (nee Stashko) and Ernest Wright, both of whom predeceased her. She is survived by her Aunt Rose Pocatello of Dauphin; Ernie's siblings, Alexander Grant, James Grant and June Bowen as well as many cousins in Manitoba, Alberta, Nova Scotia and PEI. Tammy lived in Winnipeg and received all of her education here. She was the youngest of eleven cousins in Manitoba and enjoyed family gatherings in Winnipeg, Dauphin and Fork River. After graduation from Vincent Massey, Tammy followed her passion and worked at Assiniboia Downs. At the age of 21, Tammy was the very unfortunate victim of an automobile accident in Chicago on December 23, 1987, leaving her severely disabled. Tammy returned to her home in Fort Garry in 1989, where she was lovingly cared for by her mother and father. In 1996 they moved to a new home on Courage Place designed to meet her needs where they enjoyed many happy years filled with friends, neighbours and family. Tammy enjoyed a variety of pleasures during the last 30 years. She was an avid fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Toronto Blue Jays, and Winnipeg Jets when that franchise returned to our city. She loved Country and Western music with George Strait being her favorite artist. Although Tammy loved her sports and music, she loved horses and horse racing the most. She spent many days at Assiniboia Downs and formed many friendships there. Tammy's story will be forever remembered by all as one of remarkable strength and courage. Yet all through this, Tammy remained positive and happy. She continued to have a sharp sense of humor and enjoyed to share her opinions on various topics. Tammy's journey was enriched by many wonderful people, far too numerous to mention here - family, friends, neighbours, as well as home care, communication and medical professionals. We hope you know who you are, and the special place you held in Tammy's heart. Marie - for almost two decades your love, care and support have been instrumental in Tammy's happiness. Thank you for your unwavering loyalty and compassion. Special thanks go to CancerCare Manitoba for their support during Tammy's final fight and to Dr. Daryl Perry and the team on 2 West at Riverview Health Centre for their excellent care. Tammy was happy and proud to call Riverview her home for her last two years. Tammy passed away on Kentucky Derby Day, Saturday, May 6, 2017. The winning horse was "Always Dreaming". Rest in Peace Tammy. We will be "Always Dreaming" of you. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 19, 2017 at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard. I posted this in Facebook along with a link to the obituary to let my friends know of Tammy's passing. "This posting is for my friends from General Byng and Vincent Massey. Tammy Wright passed away recently and I was lucky enough to have reconnected with her when she moved into Riverview Health Centre, just a couple of doors down from my sister's room. While Tammy had tremendous challenges moving her body, her mind was sharp when it came to remembering things we did as children and her life before the accident. She used a device to help communicate her thoughts, and while she could no longer talk she could definitely laugh and she did that a lot! After visiting my sister, I would go down the hall and chat with Tammy. And I always left her room laughing and smiling! She had a crazy sense of humour and some days she would swear like a sailor! We talked about birthday parties we attended as kids, friends, family, the Jets, country music, her artistic talents (she enjoyed painting), but mostly her many crushes, past and present - and I enjoyed teasing her relentlessly about her wandering heart! As kids, Tammy and I always loved that we had the same first name and the same initials: TLW. In high school we shared the same home room and she introduced me to the music of April Wine. I was so surprised and happy when I found out she had moved to Riverview Health Centre. She participated in many activities with my sister who Tammy also remembered from her childhood. It was a joy to have Tammy back in our lives again. Tammy was a beautiful person, inside and out, and taught me a great deal about how to enjoy each day and find laughter in every moment. Please know that while the car accident she endured thirty years ago changed her life dramatically, the real tragedy here was the cancer that ultimately claimed her life. Rest in peace Tammy." - Posted by: Tammy Westaway (School friend) on: May 19, 2017

Your unfailing good humour and quiet acceptance of the cruelties of life were qualities I truly admired. You made me feel grateful and appreciative for my own minor inconveniences. Rest in peace. - Posted by: Michael J. Pocatello (Cousin) on: May 18, 2017
