ROBERT KELLY It is with a heavy heart we announce the sudden passing of our son, brother and uncle. Robert Patrick Kelly Jr. passed away on May 1, 2017 shortly after his 49th birthday. Robert is survived by his parents Robert and Elizabeth Kelly, sister Colleen Kelly-Hrynchuk, brother-in-law Paul, nephew Jonah, niece Hannah-Grace from OakBank, MB and sister Kathleen Kelly-Ste.Marie, brother-in-law David and nephew Christian from California. He will be sorely missed by all. Robert graduated from the University of Winnipeg in 1986 then shortly after moved to Calgary, Alberta to start a life there. He attended college in Calgary and after graduating had several job positions until he found employment with the city of Calgary. Robert's love of music was evident early on when he joined a band and did what he loved, he was a self taught musician and an amazing artist. He could free hand anything you put in from of him. He was not only creative but intellectual, articulate, brilliant, funny, adventurous and a gentle quiet sole. Robert was most passionate about travelling and scuba diving. This passion took him all over the world to Australia, Hawaii, Mexico, Vietnam, Philippines, Curacao, Egypt, Belize and Cuba just to name a few. There he met people who shared his passion and the love of the tropics. While on these adventures Robert would photograph sea creatures and could tell you the name and details about all of them. Robert was an animal lover especially those with scaly skin! He adored his reptiles for many years. He loved his "pups' in Winnipeg, Lily and Buddy. Robert would often volunteer at the animal rescues in Calgary after work or on the weekends. Cremation has taken place. A private family celebration of Robert's life will take place this summer. Donations can be made to Pet Rescue, 3062 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3K 0Y1. Those we love don't go away, they walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard but always near. So loved, so missed, so very dear. www.seasonsfunerals.ca

I was truly shocked and saddened to hear the news about Robert. I met Robert when he first started at the City, and it wasn’t long before he made many friends, and I was lucky to be one of them. You wouldn’t know it coming from a quiet person like Robert but he was funny, and had an infectious laugh. A small group of us would talk for hours after work about many, many topics including music, travel, family, friends and his scaly pets too. He had many passions in his life; music and travel were just a few of them. He was a talented guitar player to say the least and loved to talk about music and would always take the time to ask about my daughter, as she is a musician as well. I still have the guitar bar stool I got from Robert years ago, to this date it’s used several times a week as my daughter’s band still jams here at home. I’m glad Robert took the opportunities to travel off to far away, tropical places to go scuba diving. He was an extremely good diver and had a great sense of adventure for the ocean. When he returned from his trips he always had mementos for his friends, pictures to show and stories to tell. I have a magnet he brought me back from Egypt, it’s still on my fridge, meaning more than ever. It was a pleasure to help Robert when I could, he didn’t drive so often we'd get groceries or go shopping for items for his apartment, it was always a fun outing with Robert. I wanted you to know that Robert made a difference in so many lives, including mine. I’m grateful for the time I got to spend with Robert and wanted you to know your son was a thoughtful, caring person who was a good friend to so many. Robert will be sadly missed, but will always be in our hearts, as a friend, as a coworker. I'll miss your laughter the most. Mr. & Mrs. Kelly, my very deepest sympathies to you and your family. - Posted by: Cathy Sorensen ((Friend/Co-worker)) on: May 16, 2017

If you were a visitor to the Bonnybrook Facility in Calgary, Robert was the first person you would meet, always ready to help out. His passion for traveling was subtlety evident from the few mementos around his office, but when asked about it, he would amaze you with stories of adventures around the globe. His gentle demeanor and empathy shaped his relationships with his co-workers; he moved through the office with great care and regard for those around him, even walking through several buildings to hand deliver mail, because he new it would be important to those that depended on it. We all miss him very much. Robert you will be in our thoughts and prayers. - Posted by: Scott Eagleson (Co-worker) on: May 15, 2017

I had the pleasure of knowing and working with Robert for six years. We had a shared love of travel and animals. Robert had a great sense of humour and we would spend many days sharing stories and laughing, sometimes to the point that we would have tears streaming down our faces! Robert was a gentle soul and he gave me support through a very worrisome time in my life, which I will never forget. Thank you Robert, you will be missed. - Posted by: Kathy Benneke (Friend/Co-worker) on: May 13, 2017
