I lived next door to Phyllis when we were both about nine years old. We've been close friends ever since - so close that it seemed she was one of the family. As children in the 1930s we went to gym class together and I slept over at her house too many times to count. During WWII, while we were in our late teens early twenties, we had fun going to dances held for the service men, and took the evening-return midnight train to Grand Beach to go to dances there. Phyllis was kind, thoughtful and would do anything in her power to help someone else. She has been a dear friend to me all my life and I will miss her more than I can say.
