VLADO (WALTER) SMREKAR 1943 - 2017 It is with great sadness we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Vlado Smrekar on Sunday, May 14, 2017, at Concordia Hospital, at the age of 73 years. Left to mourn Vlado's passing are his wife Janina; son George (Heather); grandchildren, Keeley and Grayson; brother Miro (Marica) and nephews, Primoz (Tatjana) and Peter (Ana) of Slovenia; mother-in-law Julia Ksiazek; sister-in-law Stasia Ksiazek; brother-in-law Czeslaw Ksiazek; niece Kasia (Mike) of Winnipeg, as well as many close friends. He was predeceased by his father Stanislav and his mother Jozefa. Vlado was born on September 27, 1943 in Cividale, Italy, grew up in Slovenia and then moved to Winnipeg in 1966 where he met his wife of 48 years, Janina. He lived life to the fullest, enjoying bowling, fishing, biking, skiing, swimming, walking his dog, gardening, soccer, singing with the church choir and playing with his grandchildren. Vlado brought joy to anyone lucky enough to have known him and leaves behind a lifetime's worth of priceless memories. Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Friday, May 19, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. in Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, 95 MacDonald Avenue, Winnipeg, with Rev. Fr. Diosdado Parrenas, presiding. For those who wish, viewing will be held prior to Mass. Interment will be held in Slovenia at a later date. Special thanks to dear friends, Lojzek Stegne (Tatiana), Andrej Kostanjevic (Albina), as well as Father D. Parrenas and the Parish at Our Lady of Lourdes for all their help and support.
