VIVIENNE LINGWOOD PEARN
Born: Jul 31, 1923
Date of Passing: May 26, 2017
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryVIVIENNE LINGWOOD PEARN July 31, 1923 - May 26, 2017 Vivienne passed away peacefully at the Grace Hospital on Friday, May 26. Vivienne is survived by her son Stuart Mackay; daughters-in-law, Joan Mackay, Marilyn Mackay and Cindy Fleischman; stepdaughters, Lynn Hassell and Pat McClintock; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her first husband James Mackay; her second husband James Pearn; her sons, Bruce, Cliff and Bill; as well as her stepson Ken. Vivienne was born in Winnipeg to Frederick and Dorothy Clifford and lived there until she married James Mackay in 1944. James was a military officer so much of her married life was taken up moving from one place to another with his career while raising her four boys. James died in 1967, and Vivienne needed to find work to support her family. She found employment at Federated Insurance in Winnipeg and quickly became a supervisor in the company. She also became involved in the Manitoba Professional Women's Association and advocated for the advancement of women in business. Soon after, she met and fell in love with James Pearn who was the Superintendent of Aircraft Maintenance at the Ministry of Transportation in Winnipeg. They married in 1972 and spent much of their time building their new home in Headingley, planting a huge garden, involving themselves in their local community and church and, most importantly, sharing the work of restoring antique cars and developing a garage museum. They were both honoured by the Headingley Chamber of Commerce for their work in initiating the Over 55 Club, starting a public library and fundraising for a seniors' centre. Jim and Viv were avid RV'ers and travelled to every province and the Yukon Territories enjoying the sights and sounds of our country. In 2005, they donated their antique cars and garage artifacts to the Municipality of Headingley for its use. Jim's Vintage Garages Heritage Museum is their legacy. A service to honour her wonderful life of over 93 years will be held this Thursday, June 1 at 11:00 a.m. at the Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Headingley, 5335 Portage Avenue, followed by a reception at the near-by Jim's Vintage Garages Heritage Museum and Headingley Community Centre. In lieu of flowers, Vivienne has requested that a donation be made to your charity of choice. Oh yes, to honour her life, please say something nice to someone: this was the way Viv lived her life. A beautiful lady who touched my life in so many ways. A professional relationship and friendship that developed over the past 35 years. Tax season will never be the same. I will miss you "Mrs. Pearn". My sincere condolences to the family. - Posted by: Patricia McBride (Friend) on: Jun 01, 2017

Although I have not spoken with Vivienne for many years, I have many fond memories of her. She and Jim were so welcoming when George and I joined the car club and remember many good times both at home and on the road. Rest in peace. - Posted by: Patricia Rogers (Acquaintance ) on: May 30, 2017
