Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDOUGLAS EARL THOMSON 1940 - 2017 The family is sad to announce the passing of Douglas Earl Thomson May 28, 2017 at Riverview Health Centre in Winnipeg, after a several year battle with cancer. He leaves behind Dorothy, his wife, love and best friend for more than four decades. She was the inspiration for many songs he wrote, and his travel companion on numerous adventures in Canada and around the world. He also leaves behind three wonderful children, Carllie (Bernie), Deborah, and Christopher (Christine); and six grandchildren, Adam, Amandah, Angela, Epic, Jared, and Sylvia. He also leaves behind brothers and sisters-in-law, Audrey and Jack and Barb and Dave and their respective families He was predeceased by his father Earl Douglas, his mother, Dorothea, and his stepfather Richard. Doug was proud of many of his life achievements including; winning the Canada Jaycees National Effective Speaking competition; writing over 100 songs; numerous books including "Lottery Inc." that reached number 3 on the McNally Robinson best seller list; Vice President, Johnson & Higgins; Executive Vice President, Field Aviation; President and CEO of Southport Aerospace; founding Winnipeg Chair and several time award winner of The Executive Committee (TEC); President of the Winnipeg West Rotary Club; President of Fort Garry Progressive Conservative Riding Association; Chairman of the Board of Mount Royal University, Versatech Industries, and Elite Communications; Board member of Riverview Health Centre. In Doug's honor, The Doug and Dorothy Thomson Scholarship for Geriatric and Palliative Care Nursing has been established at the Winnipeg Foundation by Doug's Executive Committee members. Doug loved life and his family and leaves with a smile and thank you for having enjoyed his 76 years. A service will be held on Tuesday, June 6 at 2:00 p.m. at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard, followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Riverview Health Centre Foundation 1 Morley Avenue East Winnipeg, MB R3L 2P4.
