PAULA (THORSTEINSON) CURIC December 22, 1952 - June 2, 2017 Paula, our much loved wife, mother, amma, sister, aunt and friend, passed away peacefully at Selkirk General Hospital on June 2, 2017, with loved ones by her side. Paula was born in Gimli, MB and, after graduating high school, she moved to Winnipeg to start her career and start a family, but her heart always stayed in Gimli, deeply immersed in her Icelandic culture and heritage. With tremendous devotion, she raised her two sons, while obtaining a degree in Sociology at the University of Manitoba. Learning and kindness defined her life -helping whoever she could. She then found true love with Jerry; they married in 2006 and resided in Selkirk until her passing. With his encouragement, she fulfilled her dream and achieved her second degree in Social Work, taking her career to Churchill as a Child and Family Services Coordinator prior to her retirement. Later in life, she found new family joy as an Amma with the arrival of her granddaughter April. Mom will be missed and remembered with love by all of us. Paula will be forever loved and cherished by her husband Jerry; sons Brent (Andrea) Venton and Scott (Ava) Venton; precious granddaughter April; mother-in-law Blanka; brother Carl Thorsteinson; sisters Rosalie (Roy) Severn, Tanis (Mark) Carlow and Penny Dzydz; Aunt Amy; and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Paula was predeceased by her loving parents Johann (1979) and Valdina (2002) Thorsteinson, sister-in-law Gayle Thorsteinson (2014), and brother-in-law Barry Dzydz (2013). Our family would like to express our deepest gratitude to the nurses and staff of Selkirk General Hospital, cousins Karen and Arthur, and friends Shelly, Anne-Shirley, and Tanis Barker. Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, June 9 at 2:00 p.m. at Farmer's Hall, Gimli, MB. Interment will be held on a later date in Riverton. In lieu of flowers, donations in Paula's memory can be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9. Expressions of condolence may be sent to condolences@nbardal.mb.ca There is a sacredness in tears. They are not the mark of weakness, but of power. They speak more eloquently than ten thousand tongues. They are the messengers of overwhelming grief, of deep contrition, and of unspeakable love... Goda Nott Elskan.
