YVONNE MARGUERITE ELLIOTT (nee DESJARDINS) May 5, 1924 - June 2, 2017 On June 2, 2017, our mom passed away peacefully at the Charleswood Care Centre in Winnipeg. Surviving Mom is her son Byron (Tammy), their children, Shelby and Spencer, daughter Ellen (Calvin), daughter-in-law Michelle, her sisters, Emma Thompson, Elisie Williams, and Irene Rochon (Ron), brother Wesley (Catherine), and sister-in-law Joyce Keenan, and all their extended families. Mom was predeceased by her husband William (Bill) in 2009, son Bradley in 2017, sisters, Maisie and Dorothy, and brothers, Maurice, John, and Clarence. Mom was born in North Bay, Ontario on May 5, 1924. She left school after Grade 9 and worked for the Department of National Defense in Ottawa as a typist/file clerk. It was in Ottawa where Mom and Dad met, and where they married on April 4, 1953. Military life took our parents to Germany and France and from Canada's east and west coasts and many places in between, with their three children joining them along the way. Mom participated in many sports and hobbies throughout her life, her favourites being baseball, basketball, bowling, lawn bowling, cards (bridge, euchre and whist), sewing, knitting, ceramics, and painting. She also loved travelling to Ottawa, Kingston and Oshawa to visit her siblings, in-laws and their families, taking her last trip in her 91st year. She was not afraid of tackling anything new, learning to drive, taking up ceramics, lawn bowling, painting, swimming, and golf in her fifties/sixties and onwards. During her last few years she enjoyed watching curling on TV, and wished she could have had an opportunity to take up this sport. Participating in 'sports' was very important to Mom. In her words, "Participating in sport, during my childhood and teenage years, kept me out of trouble, trouble I saw a lot of my peers getting into." From April, 2014 to April, 2017, Mom lived at All Seasons Care Sturgeon Creek II Assisted Living. For health reasons, we recently moved Mom into full care at the Revera Charleswood Care Centre. The family would like to thank the staff of both these facilities for the care they gave Mom. No formal service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mom's memory to a charity of your choice. Condolences may be left at www.gilbartfuneralhome.com Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk, MB in care of arrangements.
