MAGCHELTJE (TILLY) STOLK April 25, 1925 - Rotterdam, The Netherlands June 5, 2017 - Winnipeg, Manitoba Tilly passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 5, 2017 at the St. Norbert Personal Care Home. She was born in Rotterdam on April 25, 1925 to Jacobus and Cornelia Francina op der Heijde. She survived a demanding childhood, including the occupation of Rotterdam during the Second World War where she risked her life many times to head into the countryside with her mother to find scraps of food to feed the family. Tilly married Izaak Stolk on August 27, 1947 and they immigrated to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1954 with their daughter Franca. Many long lasting and cherished friendships were made while living in the Immigration Hall for three months upon their arrival. They loved their life in Canada where their second daughter Marion was born. Tilly worked hard alongside her husband to make a happy and prosperous life for their family. Her favourite job was working in the bakery department of the Dominion Store where everyone knew Tilly and respected her work ethic and her sense of humour. She had a zest for life that was contagious. There was always laughter when Tilly was around. Tilly's joy for life and generosity spread to many new friends in Brownsville, Texas and at Hillside Beach where, Tilly and Izaak split their time upon retirement. Her thoughts and actions were always to take care of those around her and put a smile on people's faces. Tilly is survived by her daughters, Franca Matheson, her husband Robert, and Marion Wiedman, her husband Rod, by her grandchildren, Kelly Lynne Matheson King, her husband Loran King, and Scott Robert Izaak Matheson, his wife Shannon, as well as by her great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Gwen Matheson, Taylor Grace Matheson and Logan Ryder King. She was predeceased by her parents, Jacobus and Cornelia, her husband Izaak and her brothers, Jacobus, Adriian and Melis. She will be so much missed. We will always feel your love in our hearts and hear you laughter and hear you saying "If you don't tickle yourself nobody else will". Thanks to the staff at The Waverley, The Rosewood and The St. Norbert Personal Care Home for their care and kindness during her final years. The family will celebrate her life at a private family gathering. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made payable to Alberta Children's Hospital Foundation, 2888 Shaganappi Trail NW Calgary, Alberta T3B 6A8; or www.childrenshospital.ab.ca. • So sorry for your loss. It was always a joy when your father and mother visit The Netherlands. They were such a nice couple. In 1993 the year that I married they gave me the advice to follow my heart, just like they did. They were still in love. And I am still in love with my husband. They both will always be in our hearts. Lot's of love youreading niece Corrien Dünar - van der Heiden. - Posted by: Corrien Dünar (I am the daughter of your Aunt Elisabeth Stolk.) on: Jun 29, 2017
