GERRIE FARGEY
Born: Jul 05, 1949
Date of Passing: Jun 05, 2017
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGERRIE FARGEY July 5, 1949 - June 5, 2017 It is with profound sadness that the family of Gerrie Fargey announces her passing following a brief illness. She will be deeply missed by Glenn Bigourdin, her partner-in-life of 44 years; brother Ken (Lil) Fargey, and sister Diane (Mike) Davidson. She is also survived by her nieces, Julie, Jocelyn, Karen Davidson and Lisa Eyamie; nephew Frank Fargey; uncle John and aunt Gail Fargey, and numerous cousins. Gerrie was predeceased by her parents, Jim and May Fargey, as well as her brother Barry Fargey. Gerrie was raised on Cedar Place in Norwood and attended Nordale and Nelson MacIntyre schools. She continued on to the University of Manitoba, where she received her teaching certificate. Between school and university, she worked at TD Bank, Hudson's Bay Company, and Norwood Florists, and was the first female customs officer to work at the old Winnipeg Airport. In 1972, Gerrie was hired as a flight attendant with Transair and became one of the "Golden Girls". Transair, of course, morphed into Pacific Western Airlines, Canadian Airlines, and finally, Air Canada. She retired from Air Canada on October 1, 2007 after 35 years of service. Her job as a flight attendant and her love for travel with her partner Glenn took her to every corner of the world, making new friends where ever they explored. Everyone loved to hear Gerrie tell a story from her travels. One of her favourite things in life was to read in the backyard gazebo, even with frost on the rooftops. She would turn on the propane heater and wrap herself in her afghan with her two cats, Shang and (especially) Mizzy (both of whom predeceased her). On warmer days she would always have a pocketful of nuts to feed her squirrel and chipmunk friends. Gerrie was a Bomber fan, and 2017 marked her 42nd year as a season ticket holder. Her tailgating was legendary. She loved to share a glass of red wine with her many friends, new and old, "cheers clink" and special mention must be made of her reunions with "The Steel Magnolias". Gerrie was always immaculate, as was her house and yard, and NOBODY could welcome guests to the table like Gerrie. Her kindness and thoughtfulness knew no limits. Friends and family are invited to remember Gerrie at a casual come-and-go gathering in the Atrium Room of the Conservatory at Assiniboine Park, on Sunday, June 18 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. All are encouraged to share in a photo-tribute, stories and condolences for the family by visiting Gerrie's memorial page at IntegrityDeathCare.com. The family would like to express sincere appreciation to the teams at both The Grace ICU and Health Sciences Centre MICU for their tender care of Gerrie and the kindness expressed to members of the family. As well, thank you to those who visited Gerrie or otherwise supported the family during this extremely difficult time. In lieu of flowers, donations to The Canadian Red Cross or an animal charity of your choice would be appreciated. Gerrie, you are the sunshine of my life! Love forever, Glenn INTEGRITY Cremation & Funeral Planning 204-295-5408 - IntegrityDeathCare.com
