HOWARD ANDREW TACKABERRY With deep sadness, our family announces the peaceful passing of Howard "Tack" on June 1, 2017, at the age of 86, at River Park Gardens, with his family at his side. Howard was predeceased by his beloved wife Doreen, parents Dr. William and Sadie, and brother Ronald. He is survived by his sister, Ruth Dowding. Howard will be greatly missed by his children: Brenda and husband Barry, Erin and husband Rod and Warren and wife Debbie. He also leaves his loving legacy to his adoring grandchildren: Stephanie, David, Jessica, Laura and Riley, and great-grandchild, Russell. Howard was born on March 27, 1931 in Owen Sound. Through life experiences, he developed a passion for ships and life on the water. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Sea Cadets and worked as a Wheelsman on various vessels within the Great Lakes. Later Howard found a rewarding career with Ford Motor Company, where he excelled in the position of Truck Merchandising Manager at the Head Office on Ellice Avenue, until he retired in 1991. When he wasn't on the road with Ford, he was busy volunteering with his children's sporting activities as coach, taxi driver and number one fan. Howard's smile could light up the room when his grandchildren came to visit. Howard and Doreen raised their family on Allard Avenue in Westwood and were blessed to have a group of special neighbours who they fondly referred to as the "Allard Gang". These neighbours are like family and have continued to maintain a lifelong relationship with Howard. Our family would like to thank the "Allard Gang" for all your love, friendship and support for Howard and Doreen, over the many years. We would also like to express our gratitude to the wonderful staff at the River Park Gardens for their amazing care and compassion. Following Howard's wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9. Condolences & Memories (7 entries)

  • So sorry to hear about Howard. I worked with him several years in Winnipeg and lived just down the street from him. Howard was always positive, a dedicated worker and proud of his family. God bless Howard. - Posted by: Fred Fairs (Friend) on: Jun 14, 2017

  • Our sincere condolences Warren to you and your family....We have fond memories of his sense of humour and wonderful smile....He will be missed... - Posted by: Ted and Diane Keep (Friend) on: Jun 14, 2017

  • I started working in the Heavy Truck Dept at Ford, Wpg under the guidance of Howard. It was because of him that I had the opportunity to transfer to Oakville, On and become a true member of the Ford Heavy Truck Family. I know that some of my fondest memories in Ford were when Howard was present. He had that certain personality that could light up any room. And being one of the few females in this department, he always made sure I was accepted and comfortable in my surroundings. A total gentleman no matter who he was around. My sincere condolences to the Tackaberry family ... Howard, we will miss you !!! - Posted by: Wanda Pucci (Co-worker / Friend) on: Jun 12, 2017

  • From 1978 until 1982 I was the regional manager in Winnipeg. It was a real pleasure to work with Howard and to meet his fine wife at different events including the Christmas reception in our home. Of the many things I learnt from Tack was a drink called a Presbyterian which he enjoyed and I had never heard about. His contagious smile and his knowledge of heavy trucks was his trademark. I enjoyed having know him during my stay at the Midwestern Region. - Posted by: Raymond Leduc (Fellow associate Ford of Canada) on: Jun 12, 2017

  • Howard and I worked in Heavy Truck sales together and I did my best to support his sales efforts from Oakville. We would get together many times with customers either in Winnipeg or at another location. Howard was always a true gentleman and a professional in the way he conducted himself with everyone. I will always remember his warm smile and hospitality whenever I came to Winnipeg. My sympathy and condolences to the family. - Posted by: Kaz Shikaze (Co-worker at Ford of Canada) on: Jun 12, 2017

  • Our deepest sympathy to the family, I were privileged to know Howard and Doreen for over 30 years. Howard and I were introduced as new recruits at the same meeting in the Wpg Ford Office. We traveled together and roomed together on many missions throughout the Region. We put on meetings together and called on many fleet customers, we even spent most of a weekend stuck on the road in a snowstorm south of Moose Jaw. Very sad to see his obituary. • So Sorry to hear about the passing of Tack, I met Howard as a young salesperson while working at Parkside Ford. Howard would come in and visit and get all of us laughing and always feeling good about things. He was a true gentleman who always looked out for his associates best interests. My condolences to the Tackaberry Family. - Posted by: Peter Krasny (Work Associate) on: Jun 10, 2017
