BARRY COFFIN It is with heartfelt sadness that the Coffin family announces the untimely loss of an amazing husband, father, brother, and son. Barry Francis Lane Coffin, on Thursday, June 8, 2017, at the age of 62, passed away at home, surrounded by his family. He is predeceased by his father Clarence (Jr.), brother Brent, sister-in-law Cathy, and nephew Aaron. He will be lovingly missed by his wife Pat, daughter Rachel, son Ryan, mother Helen, brothers, Alan (Cathy), Kevin (Sheila) and Rob, sisters, Velma (Clifford), Bonnie (Zdravko) and Belinda (Ashif), mother-in-law Shirley, brother-in-law Bob (Kelly), sister-in-law Debbie (Bob), and many nieces and nephews who came to know Barry through his generous personality, warmth, mischievous sense of humour, and his desire to engage all he encountered in the wonders of life. Barry grew up in Mt. Stewart, PEI and often returned to visit with family, where he fed his love of lobster, and indulged in the fruits of the Coffin Berry Farm. At the age of 19 he joined the RCMP and was a member for 37 years. During the years, he was stationed in numerous locations throughout Manitoba, as well as Fort Frances, ON. He retired from the RCMP in Selkirk, MB at the rank of Sergeant in charge of Traffic Services. Barry was an accomplished athlete and outdoorsman, he played competitive baseball and hockey into his late 20s, while developing a passion for golf. When it came to sports, Barry often said he was 'a jack of all trades, and a master of none' though this didn't deter him from applying his competitive spirit to any activity that came his way. Barry was a generous man to his final day and had the simple wish that all he loved continue to live in the spirit of honesty, love, and generosity. Special thanks to Dr. Ben Fultz of Internal Medicine, Melanie Bernas of Selkirk Palliative Care, Nurse Gayle of home care, and all Selkirk medical staff. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation or the charity of your choice. Please note: As Barry was an avid sports fan we welcome all attending the service to wear the sports attire of their choice in celebration of his life. The memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 20 at the Selkirk Notre Dame Catholic Church, with a reception to follow in the Gilbart Funeral Home Reception Center. To the Coffin family, I am so sorry for your loss. I've worked with Barry in Selkirk and have always known him as a man who loved his family and work (In that order). Over the years that I knew him I gained an appreciation of how caring and respectful he was to all. Whenever he greeted me it was always with 'Russell Russell Russell' and I would respond with a couple of 'Coff Coff's, To this day I always think of him whenever I hear the wind rustling thru the trees. A great man, friend and a man I can honestly say, I was proud to have served with. To Live in the hearts of those left behind is not to die. God Bless. - Posted by: Cliff Russell (Coworker) on: Jun 20, 2017

I'll always remember Barry from our days in Wabowden and Cross Lake as being large at heart and deep with compassion, no matter the circumstance. Yes, Barry was a comic and a card, but loyally dedicated to his friends and family. He was an influence in my life and a fun person to work with. Terry and I express condolences to Pat and the Coffin family. We were fortunate enough to visit PEI and the Coffin homestead and see where Barry's strong values were formed. He will be missed. Nothing but great memories Barry. I too, appreciate and will always remember your sense of humour, but more importantly, your friendship and those qualities, that are all too often missing in this day and age; your honesty, sense of justice and integrity. You'll be missed but not forgotten. My condolences Pat, Rachel, Ryan and all the family. Thank you - Posted by: Max Churley (Friend) on: Jun 16, 2017

My sincere condolences to Barry's family. Barry and I were troop mates in Troop 13 74/75. Although our paths crossed only a few brief times over the years, I have many fond memories of Barry. My most vivid memory is of Barry "leading the parade" from the drill hall to the swimming pool to throw our drill instructor fully clothed into the pool as was the tradition when I drill instructor was promoted. It was one of those, "you had to be there" events but believe me that Barry, with his wit and poor acting skills truly stood out from the rest of the rabble carrying the drill instructor. Barry was one of the best. He is remembered. Mike McTaggart - Posted by: Mike McTaggart (Friend/Troop Mate) on: Jun 11, 2017

Since meeting Barry in Emerson and working close by in the 1970s he has been a good friend over the years. A great hockey player, golfer and he excelled in almost everything he touched. A very personable guy that we will miss. My condolences to his family and friends on this tough loss. - Posted by: Kevin Duckett (Friend) on: Jun 10, 2017
