Date of Passing: Jun 12, 2017
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySANDRA ANTONELLA CURATOLO March 6, 1969 - June 12, 2017 With the heaviest of hearts, we announce the passing of Sandy (Sandra Antonella) Curatolo (née DiGirolamo). Sandy passed away at home, with her family at her side, holding her daughter's hand. She was our beloved wife, mother, sister, auntie, cousin, sister-in-law and friend. To all who loved her she was the anchor and compass of her family. Sandy was our bright light and we were fortunate to have her in our lives. Her warm nature and her desire to put the needs of her family before her were always evident. Sandra was born on March 6, 1969 in Winnipeg to Elena and Vincenzo DiGirolamo. Saddened by this profound loss are her husband, Onofrio, and her children, Massimo and Giordana. Sandy will remain forever in the hearts of her four older sisters, Liliana (Joe) Morganti, Luciana DiGirolamo (Rolly Bohemier), Tiziana (Franco) DiLello and Tilde (Gordon) Duff. Also grieving her loss are her sisters-in-law: Teresa (Pino) Campanelli and Anna (Don) MacDiarmid. Her parents Vincenzo and Elena DiGirolamo, her brother Frank DiGirolamo, niece Rosella DiGirolamo, and her parents-in-law Umberto and Filomena Curatolo predeceased her. In her early years, Sandra worked in the hospitality industry, both at the Radisson Hotel and the Centro Caboto Centre. While raising their twins, she chose to join her husband in running the family business, New York Burgers. Although she was a private and modest person she was open and welcoming to all. Both employees and customers were greeted by her genuine smile, and everyone admired her hard-working nature and her ability to manage all aspects of the business. It will undoubtedly be a difficult adjustment without her. Her greatest joy was being a mom to her twins, Massimo and Giordana. Her role as a mother came naturally; she knew how to love and guide them with an intuitive sensitivity and contributed and participated in every aspect of their lives. Attributing to her gentle spirit she maintained lifelong friendships from her school days, especially those from Vincent Massey Collegiate. A source of great contentment was enjoying time at their home in Pagliare, Italy where the family spent their summers over the past five years. Just three months ago, she was marvelling at the beauty and quiet of her special home and how fortunate she was to spend time with her two favourite aunts, Lila DelPrete and Sinetta Nardini. She truly lived "the good life". Honorary Pallbearers: Marisa Campanelli, Stefania Campanelli, Gabrielle DelPrete, Armando DiLello, John Morganti, Guido Persiani, Brad Shumila Andrea Bergaglio, Derek Markus and John Stanko. As a family, we are forever grateful and extend our heartfelt thanks to the nursing staff of the 7th floor at the St. Boniface Hospital. A special thank you for the guidance and friendship given by her pharmacist, Jennifer Fotti. In keeping with the spirit of Sandra Curatolo, in lieu of flowers please donate to a cause or charity that is dear to your heart. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 510 River Ave. with condolences at 10:00 a.m. The Reverend Father Sam Argenziano presiding. Onofrio, Massimo and Giordana, we've been struggling all week trying to find something to say that will bring you comfort or ease your grief, but words fail us. Please know how deeply heartbroken we are for Sandra, you, the kids and we wish so badly that the outcome would have been different. Sandra will always be remembered as a beautiful, sincere, and genuine woman, and you only needed to know her for five minutes to realize this. I will never forget her sweet smile and her sparkly eyes and her warm greeting every time I saw her. We offer you and your entire family our deepest condolences in this most devastating time, we share in your grief. Rest in peace beautiful Sandra. I remember the day Elena and Vincenzo brought Sandra home from the hospital...it was a bright and sunny Winnipeg day in Spring. She caused quite a stir as I remember the many neighbours who came to see and meet the newest member of the Di Girolamo family! Sandra - a beautiful name that wonderfully personified her natural grace and giving, nurturing persona that followed her throughout her life and touched all who met her. Our thoughts and prayers are with you Onof, Massimo and Giordana and the extended family who will certainly miss you. -Lia - Posted by: Lia Baksina (Godmother and family friend) on: Jun 16, 2017
