GWENDOLINE MARION LEACH (nee REST) April 3, 1925 - June 21, 2017 It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of their mother, grandmother, and great grandmother at Concordia Place in Winnipeg, at the age of 92 years. Gwen was predeceased by her husband Steve in 2003 after 60 years of marriage. She was also predeceased over the years by her brothers Bill, Vic and Peter and sisters Joyce and Jean in England. She is survived in her British family by her sister Hilda and numerous nieces and nephews. In Canada, she is survived by her son Gerry, with grandson Bryan (Denise), with great-granddaughters Courtney and Jordyn, granddaughter Sandy (Adam), with great-granddaughter Camille, her son Garry, with grandson Christopher, with great-grandson Kieran, granddaughter Cindy (Clay), with granddaughters Clara and Chloe, grandson Colin (Allisha), with great-grandchildren Hudson and Hadley and son Glenn (Michelle) with granddaughters Madison, Megan. Gwen was born in London, England and lived a portion of her teenage years through the bombing of her beloved hometown during the Second World War. During the war, she met her future husband Steve who was proudly serving his country while enlisted with the Canadian Army. They were married in 1943 and Steve sent Gwen to Canada to escape the dangers of war while he continued his tour of duty for another two years before returning home to start their family and new life together. Gwen was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother spending much of her life looking after and assisting her family whenever and wherever possible. She took great pride in the preparation of feast-like meals for special events and family gatherings. An Angel whispered take my hand and come with me your work here is done. I went away to a place where there's no tears, nor sorrow only laughter and smiles, there will always be a tomorrow. As I move amongst the clouds I'll look down and smile upon you, while the angels sing a heavenly song. I am not alone all who went before are here, they awaited my arrival. I know you'll grieve and wish I was still there but I am here in the memories you hold dear. Remember how much I love you all and know I took all your love with me. I do not wish for you to cry, nor feel sad. My pain is gone and I am now free! Soon you'll come to me but until then God will be with you just as he's with me. Cremation has taken place and a private family gathering to celebrate her life was Gwen's request. She has now joined her lifelong companion to be with him forever. Rest in peace Mum and tell Dad we miss him very much and we will love you both forever. Sincerest thanks to the staff of Concordia Place - 4th floor for their compassion, respect, and dedication in making her final days as comfortable and dignified as possible.
