BARBARA RUTH BROWNELL
Born: Jan 01, 1930
Date of Passing: Jun 23, 2017
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryBARBARA RUTH BROWNELL January 1, 1930 - June 23, 2017 It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mom, Barb Brownell, surrounded by the love of her family, on June 23, at the age of 87 years. Predeceased by her best friend and loving husband, Don in 2015, and by her parents, Ken and Ruth Turner. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Judy (Tim) Walker, John (Michelle) Brownell, Laurie (David) Curtis and Marni Brownell (Stephen Sandstrom), grandchildren, Jeremy (Nicole), Brian (Darolyn), Aynsley (Blair), Brittany, Jordan (Erin), Emily (Johnny), Sam, Alison and Andrea, and great-grandchildren, Braedan, Jaelyn and Grayson. Barb was born and raised in Winnipeg, the eldest of four children. She is lovingly remembered by siblings, Nancy, Gordon, Gail and their families. Mom married our dad in 1951, and was his strongest supporter for 64 years. In her characteristically unassuming way, Barb was the heart of the family, and her life centered around it. She had an unlimited capacity for love, and all who knew her were embraced by her caring and compassion. Barb enjoyed music, reading, travel, the arts and time with friends. She was a great cook, as well as a wonderful host. Family dinners were her forte, and fondly remembered by all. There was always room for "one more". Once her children were grown, Mom embarked on a career as a house mother at Villa Rosa, where countless young women benefited from her acceptance and kindness. Despite the many challenges of declining health, Mom maintained her positive outlook, quick wit, and sense of humour. Her gentle, accepting nature, strength and brave spirit were an amazement and inspiration to us. A sincere thank you to the special people at Misericordia Place, who cared for Barb over the past year, as well as to Liz and Marycer, Mom's wonderful companions and friends. The family extends our deep appreciation to Dr. Bruce Martin and the Palliative Care team, for their tremendous care and support over the past month, and for allowing us time to see Mom's beautiful eyes and smile again. In keeping with Mom's wishes, a private family gathering for sharing and celebration will take place. In lieu of flowers, friends may contribute to the Misericordia Health Centre Foundation, 99 Cornish Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3C 1A2 or the "Don and Barbara Brownell Family Fund" within the United Way Tomorrow Fund, 580 Main St., Winnipeg, MB R3B 1C7. We will love and miss you forever, and have you in our hearts for always. NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE 204-949-2200 neilbardalinc.com
