JOSEPH GERELUS 1929 - 2017 It is with deep sadness that we announce the unexpected, but peaceful passing of Joe on June 24, 2017. Joe is survived by his wife Anastasia (Nellie), son Len (Pat), granddaughter Jennifer (David) Smith, his sisters Phyllis (Jack) McLauchlan and Lena (Bill) Streilein all of Winnipeg, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Joe's early career was spent working at Assiniboia Downs running their closed circuit television system, and in later years this evolved into similar work with the Manitoba Great Western Harness Racing Circuit. He made many friends and acquaintances during this time. Joe started his own business, Aero Electronics, located on McPhillips Street, which was an integral part of his life. Joe could be quite the character and his unique sense of humour was always evident. He had a special place in his heart for his dog, Missy. He enjoyed connecting with his granddaughter Jennifer and her husband David on numerous dinner outings. Joe was especially thankful for his relationship with his nephews, Michael and Bill. Special thanks to the staff in Emergency at the Victoria Hospital for their compassionate care. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 4, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Josaphat Ukrainian Catholic Church, 590 Alverstone Street, Winnipeg MB. Following the funeral service a reception will be held in the church hall with light refreshments. Glen Eden Funeral Home 204-338-7111

I remember Joe when he lived on Garfield and was our next door neighbour. I was a young child and remember him fondly. I remember times when he would come over to fix our tv I even purchased electronics from him when he owned Aero. He truly was a kind gentleman. One that left a mark on me as such a great man. My condolences go out to his family. - Posted by: Donna Dutiaume - Nesbitt () on: Jul 04, 2017

Uncle Joe was a terrific guy who would light up the room with laughter, even by just looking at us kids in the room at Gido's house during the Christmas Eve gatherings. Debra and I knew him and recall him as a caring family man. Although many years have past since we last saw him, he was never far from our thoughts. Are thoughts are with you Aunty Nellie, Len and family. - Posted by: Gary Gerleus (Nephew) on: Jul 04, 2017

Uncle Joe. Always had a smile and was happy to see me. I always enjoyed visiting with him and Aunt Nellie as I grew up. I moved away from Winnipeg too many years ago to count, but keep all the family in my heart. Today especially as you lay Uncle Joe to rest. My prayers are with him and all of you. Rest in peace Uncle! - Posted by: Kathleen Dahl (Niece) on: Jul 04, 2017

Having only had the opportunity of meeting Joe once, we can only say that he was a genuine pleasure to be around. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was comfortable conversing about a great variety of topics. He was a warm and wonderful individual that put people at ease with his friendly approach to life. He will certainly be missed. - Posted by: Brian & Gerrie Smith (Parents of Dave Smith) on: Jul 03, 2017
