Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryELSIE KERNESTED (nee PAULOSKY) February 8,1927 - June 27, 2017 It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our dear mother and grandmother, Elsie Kernested, at the age of 90 years. She is survived by her son Grant (Karen), grandchildren, Ryan (Christine) and Kristen, sister Lillian and many nieces and nephews. Elsie was predeceased by her husband Philip, her daughter Donna, her parents, Nicholas and Anastasia and her sister Jean. Elsie was born in Winnipeg and attended Faraday and Isaac Newton Schools. She worked at Eaton's for many years. In 1949, she married Phil and they eventually settled on Mountain Avenue where they raised their children and made many lifelong friends. Family gatherings with extended family were frequent during these years and were very happy times. Weekends and vacations during the summers were spent camping and fishing at Big Whiteshell Lake. In 1967, they built a cabin at Royal Lake, Ontario where many great times were had with their lake friends. Shortly after celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary in 1974, a tragic highway accident on the way to the cabin took the lives of Phil and Donna. Elsie's greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren. She helped us look after them for many years as they grew up. She loved telling them stories and feeding them. Her eyes always lit up when she saw them. She was also a loyal Bomber and Jets fan, rarely missing a game on television. In keeping with Mom's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no formal service. Mom's cremated remains will be buried next to Phil and Donna at a later date. A special thanks to the staff at Misericordia Heath Centre Interim Care for their comforting care after Mom's stroke. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice. What a lovely write up and tribute to your mother and grandmother. Having worked with Grant for many years I know what a great son he has been to his mother and how much he, Karen, Ryan and Kristen all did to care for and love her. She was lucky to have all of you. She lived a long good life because of your support. My sympathy to you all at this sad time. I know how much you will miss her. - Posted by: Donna Foster (Worked with Grant) on: Jul 01, 2017

So sorry to hear of Elsie's passing. She was a lifelong friend of my mother, Helen Tanner (nee Krowiak). They both attended Faraday and Isaac Newton Schools and worked at Eaton's and stayed friends after they both married. I know my mother loved the little excursions they planned together, going to see the sights around Winnipeg and enjoying lunches together. She was a great comfort to my mother when she was dealing with cancer before her death in 2004. - Posted by: Kathy Stevenson (Daughter of Friend) on: Jun 30, 2017
