Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEMILY GOLD 1918 - 2017 It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Emily May Gold (nee Grant), at the age of 98 years in the early morning of Thursday, June 30. She was preceded by her husband of 67 years, James Earl in 2011, her parents, Herbert Henry Grant and Hilda Grant (nee Sigurdson) in the 1950s and 1960s, all her nine siblings, and most everyone she was friends with. She is survived by her children, Jim, Marjorie (Robert) and Gordon (Pat), and one grandchild Jocelynne (Aaron). Born on August 19, 1918, Emily grew up in Winnipeg and worked as a dental assistant until she married her childhood sweetheart James on August 11, 1944 at Westminster United Church. Jim arrived in September, 1945, followed by Marjorie in 1951, and then Gordon in 1953. Emily survived serious cancer operations during the 1950s. The family resided first on Goulding Street, then Dudley Crescent and finally on Renfrew Street. Emily was active at Harrow United Church with the United Church Women's group, making many lifelong friends. Between 1964 and 1980 the family moved to Pinawa where Emily became involved in artistic endeavours such as needlepoint, rug hooking, knitting, ceramics as well as golf. She was active with the Pinawa Women's group and their many charitable projects. She had a flare for interior decorating and gardening. Emily enjoyed both backgammon and a good card game of canasta or 31 with family, and became a masters in bridge while in her 70s. Emily loved animals, particularly her cats Jackie, Toby and Blue and her budgie Charlie who was a wonderful companion to her in her later years. Emily embarked on major road trips to Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal and she loved to drive until she reached 90 years of age. Life after 92 years was not kind to her with failing physical and mental abilities but she did enjoy her time living at The Wellington Assisted Living Residence. She was cared for in her final years at the Fred Douglas Lodge to which the family is eternally grateful for their friendly, patient, and caring treatment of those no longer at their best in life. A private family ceremony to celebrate her long life was held on Friday, July 7 at Chapel Lawn. May you find happiness at the end of the road mother. I would like to extend my condolences to the family on the loss of your sweet mother, Emily. I have fond memories with visiting at James and Emily's home with Gordon many moons ago. Emily gifted me of a hand embroidered white and yellow linen table cloth which she had done herself. I was very touched at her sweet kindness and generosity and always remembered with fondness the lovely visit and family dinner and meeting Gordon's brother, Jim, too. So happy to hear that a long and well-lived life was enjoyed. God bless. - Posted by: Janice Davidson (nee Chudy) (Gordon's girlfriend once upon a time) on: Jul 05, 2018

Condolences to Gordon, Marjorie and Jim on the passing of your sweet Mom. I have many fond memories of your Mom, from the years in Pinawa. I remember that she was one of the Moms who drove a car in the 1960s when not many Moms did. I remember the sound of her loving voice during teen parties at your home. Hugs and love to you all. - Posted by: Mary-Ann Nayler Bailie (Friend) on: Jul 11, 2017
