Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJENNIFER LYNN SMITH Jennifer Lynn Smith, born February 2, 1965, passed away, with her family at St. Boniface Hospital on July 9, 2017 from cancer. She is survived by her loyal and loving husband of 26 years, Christopher Pate, and her two children, Dylan Pate, her "miracle peanut" and Nicole Pate, her "mini-me" and her pride and joy. She will be sadly missed by her brother, Kevin Smith and many nieces and nephews among the Smope and Smate families. She was predeceased by her father and mother, Lawrie and Marion Smith (nee Ormrod) as well as her brother, Christopher Smith. Jennifer's life is coloured by her many friendships, some of them lifelong. The strength and length of those connections is a testament to her compassion, loyalty and strength of heart. She was loved by many and touched many who will remember her playful approach to life. She loved reading, knitting and puzzles. She enjoyed the company of good friends and was enriched by their laughter. Even through her illness, she downplayed her own circumstance and thought of others. Jennifer graduated from Kelvin High School (1983) and then the University of Winnipeg (1988). She studied Speech Pathology at the University of North Dakota, and eventually completing her Masters Degree at the University of Alberta (1994). She loved working with children and thrived in their company. She will remembered for her selfless nature, her courage, patience, as well as her love of the wind in the trees on a blustery night. A memorial service will take place on Thursday, July 13, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Avenue (across from Brookside Cemetery). "If you love a flower that lives on a star, it is sweet to look at the sky at night. All the stars are a-bloom with flowers. . . In one of the stars I shall be living. In one of them, I shall be laughing, when you look at the sky at night. . . You and only you will have stars that can laugh. And when your sorrow is comforted (time soothes all sorrows) you will be content that you have known me. You will always be my friend." NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE 204-949-2200 neilbardalinc.com

We are so saddened by the loss of Jennifer. We appreciated so much her friendly hellos and her efforts to make sure that neighbourhood traditions like the block party and the tree banding continued each year. We have held vigil quietly over these past few months, and send love and warm thoughts to you her family as you bid her farewell. - Posted by: Zanna and Louis-Philippe (Neighbours) on: Jul 13, 2017
