You could find Peter most often in his workshop, in the garden, or in the bush hunting whatever was in season, and you could bet that he would have a story to tell when he returned. The interment will take place in Greenwood Cemetery on Thursday, July 20, at 1:15 p.m. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. at the Carman Mennonite Church. In lieu of flowers, donations in Peter's name can be made to the Charleswood Horticultural Society. Doyle's Funeral Home in care of arrangements. www.doylesfuneralhome.ca

Condolences & Memories (10 entries)

  • Peter was such an asset to our garden club and we miss him immensely. I have the most beautiful sweet peas this year and they are all from Peter and Helen's seeds. One of my favourite stories from Peter was when he brought Monarch butterfly pupae into the house and observed them with great care for several weeks. His enthusiasm and joy when they emerged into adult butterflies was palpable when he relayed the story to me in great detail. He was such a sweet and gentle man - just like a butterfly in a heavenly garden. Pat Roberts (fellow gardener) - Posted by: Pat Roberts (fellow gardener) on: Jul 31, 2017

  • Helen (and family), please accept our condolences for your loss. Living next door to you and Peter for all those years was sure a pleasure. I couldn't have wished for better neighbors and friends. Back a few years ago I never would have imagined that you and Peter wouldn't be there. I always enjoyed chatting with you and Peter over the fence, and listening to Peter's funny stories. Peter had a sense of humor that I'll sure miss. I'm very sorry for your loss, and hope you and your family can spend some time together during this hard time. - Posted by: Robin Betle and Family (Neighbor) on: Jul 20, 2017

  • Our deepest condolences go out to Helen and Family in the loss of your Husband, Father, and Grandfather. Peter thoroughly loved nature, he loved to be outdoors and expressed himself in solitude with creation. Peter loved showing all friends and visitors their gardens and his hunting trophies!!! My greatest observation of Peter was in the tenderness he had towards Helen, his Family, and his Friends! You will be lovingly Remembered by your Family at Kehilat Haverim Mashiach. Helen and Peter have Tulsa been parents and grandparents too many in our congregation and his presence will be deeply missed. - Posted by: Daniel Riedner (Friend of the Family) on: Jul 20, 2017

  • My dearest Peter - the Papa of all Papa's. Thank you for teaching our kids to cherish the simple things in life, that nature is a gift and that all animals are precious - from the wonders of a caterpillar to the magic of a humble bumble bee!
