JOHN (JOE) VANDENAKKER June 11, 1934 - July 22, 2017 After a lengthy illness Joe passed away peacefully at the age of 83. He was predeceased by his parents Barend and Willemke, his brother Harry, and brother-in-law Ed Bouwman. Joe will be lovingly remembered by his wife Tina (nee Kalma), of 57 years. He leaves to mourn his three sons, Ron (Nicky), Ken (Linda) and Mark (Janet). His grandchildren, Amanda, Josh (Mallory), Jennifer, Alex and Sara, all have many fond memories of Grandpa. Joe will be missed by his sisters, Freda and Gerrie (Bill), brother-in-law Dirk (Rita), and sister-in-law Sylvia (Tom), many nieces and nephews, and countless friends. Joe was born in Naarden, NL and came to Canada in 1954 at the age of 20 with his family. He married Tina in 1960 and together had three wonderful sons. Joe was employed by Winnipeg Transit for 30 years as a bus driver. Dad really enjoyed the outdoors, and this love came through in his amazing artworks. He was an avid artist, model builder, painter, and wood carver, these were his passions. Dad had an awesome sense of humour, was quick witted, and all that remembered him knew he was a gentle, kind soul, who will always be remembered for his big smile. His grandchildren brought him great joy, he was very loved. The family would like to thank the staff at Golden Door Geriatric Centre for their kind, compassionate care of John. A celebration of Joe's life will be held at Covenant Christian Reformed Church, 653 Knowles Ave. on Friday, July 28, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Alzheimer Society, or a charity of one's choice in Joe's memory.
