Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySISTER MARIE PHILIPPE, S.G.M. On July 30, 2017, at St. Boniface Hospital, our dear Sister Marie passed away peacefully, with her Grey Nun companions by her side. She was 95 years old and had recently celebrated 70 years of religious life. She leaves to mourn her religious community, her sister Rose, sister-in-law Pamela, many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents François and Marie-Anne Philippe (née Guigueno), her sisters Julienne, Bernadette and Germaine, and brothers Louis, Yves, Julien and Jean. Born in St. Claude, MB on May 4, 1922, Marie entered the Grey Nuns on August 5, 1944, made her first vows in St. Boniface on February 15, 1947 and her final profession in Montreal on February 15, 1952. Woman of prayer, of silence and faithful commitment to the God who called her in the footsteps of St. Marguerite d'Youville, Sister Marie Philippe always said YES to the call of duty. For 38 years after her final vows, she served in the North-West Territories: Forts Providence, Resolution, Smith, Simpson, Chipewyan, Inuvik, Liard and Rae-Edzo, alternating as superior, aide-catechism teacher, superior, house-mother, cook, driver, etc. She was a multi-gifted person who generously gave of her time and talents for the betterment of the needy. Sister Marie later left God's White Country to return to Edmonton where for 10 years she joyfully welcomed the visitors at Lac St. Anne and helped as sacristan before returning to her homeland in 2005 for a well-deserved retirement. The Grey Nuns and the Philippe family would like to thank all friends, doctors, nurses, of Despins Residence, St. Boniface Hospital for their care and support, including Lise, Isabelle and the rest of the hard working staff during Sister Marie's illness. Prayers will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday (today), August 1, 2017 at the Résidence Despins, 151 Despins Street, Winnipeg with funeral service beginning at 1:30 p.m. Interment will follow in the St. Boniface Cemetery on Archibald Street.
