JOHANNES MARTINUS (JOHN) STORNEL May 29, 1934 - July 31, 2017 John passed away peacefully, with his family by his side. John was born in Rotterdam, Netherlands on May 29, 1934. John and Elisabeth, together with their family, immigrated from Rotterdam, Holland to Canada in 1955. It is in Winnipeg that John started his working career in the agricultural field with Scott National. Furthering his career John then became an inspector with Agriculture Canada in the Fruit and Vegetable Division where he worked until his retirement. John, together with his family and friends, built a cottage in Grindstone Provincial Park where they spent many a summer. In the winter months John and Elisabeth became snowbirds enjoying their trailer in Magic Valley Park in Weslaco, Texas. John's love for the sport of soccer continued after immigrating to Canada with his playing for the Flying Dutchman Soccer Team. After his playing career finished John enjoyed refereeing and being involved with both the Manitoba and Canadian Soccer Associations. John was instrumental in the organization and operation of the Manitoba Central Soccer League. John was always ready to lend a helping hand where required. He loved being around people.
