PAULINE BURTNYK It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Pauline Burtnyk, on August 2, 2017, at the age of 87. Pauline leaves to mourn her beloved husband of 64 years, Victor; children, Sandra, Brenda (Maurizio) and Ellen; grandchildren, Alex (Megan) and Melina; brother Mike; sister-in-law Jane; as well as numerous relatives and friends. Pauline was predeceased by her parents, Michael and Mary Yachison, brothers, Henry and Bill, and sister-in-law Anne. Pauline was born in Winnipeg on June 26, 1930. Even though she grew up during the Depression, she always talked fondly of her childhood and had numerous stories about her brothers and family life. At the feet of her parents, she learned compassion, fairness, integrity, and a strong work ethic and lived these values every day of her life. With her brothers, not only did she feel safe under their protective wings, but she also learned a sense of fun and adventure. At age 21, she moved to Ottawa where she worked several years at the Defense Research Board. It was here that she reconnected with Victor, whom she had met years earlier in Winnipeg, and they celebrated their marriage in 1953. After living in Ottawa for 10 years and having two beautiful daughters, Pauline and Vic moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where they were blessed with a third daughter. They returned to Winnipeg in 1973. To her last day, Vic was her source of happiness and comfort, and her daughters were her pride and joy. Her love was boundless when her grandchildren were born and not a day went by when they weren't in her thoughts. In her 50's, Pauline expanded her life by starting a second career at D'Allaird's, where she enjoyed 13 years dealing with her favourite past-times: fashion, shopping and meeting new people. In addition, she attended university classes where she rediscovered her interest in politics and current affairs, and had no qualms about sharing her opinions on any issue!! Pauline loved travelling and enjoyed many adventures with Vic, her children, and girlfriends. She especially loved Las Vegas, Grand Forks, England and her Caribbean cruise. Even through Pauline's numerous illnesses in recent years, and as she struggled with the loss of her eyesight, her faith kept her strong and she never stopped loving and caring for her family and friends, and was a positive influence on all those around her. She will be forever remembered. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 10, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street, West St. Paul. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Pauline may be made to Canadian National Institute for the Blind. Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I first met Mrs Burtnyk when I was in high school with Brenda. Over the years our paths would cross, anywhere from the mall to walking in the neighbourhood. She was truly a wonderful, kind woman. My thoughts and prayers are with your family as you go through this difficult time. - Posted by: Kathy (Newcombe) White (Friend) on: Aug 09, 2017
