BERNHARD B. HARDER March 22, 1928 August 4, 2017 It is with sadness that the family of Bernhard Harder announces his passing peacefully at home, resting in his favourite armchair. Bernie will be lovingly remembered by his son Larry and daughter-in-law Allison Playfair, granddaughter Rebeccah, his stepson Keith Porter and his wife Mary and their family, as well as many nephews and nieces, stepgrandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Margareta (nee Schapansky), daughter Kathleen Rita Harder, daughter-in-law Norma Ann (Leslie) Harder, sisters Anne, Betty and Mary and brothers Nick and Frank. Born at the farm near Niverville, he moved to the Teulon area where he spent most of his childhood. After some adventures in Northern Manitoba and BC he returned to the farm and then moved to Winnipeg. There he met his wife, Margaret, where they settled down and lovingly raised two children. He spent his working life with the CNR in Transcona from which he retired early after Margaret died. He then moved back to his roots in the Teulon area where he lived happily in his "country estate". He spent most of his retirement years taking care of his property, fishing but never catching any fish, trying to understand the computer, writing quirky emails and spending time with friends and family. Being a caregiver to some very special people gave his life the most meaning. He was a role model for us all. He was a very good man. A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 10, 2017, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. Funeral Services will be Friday, August 11, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home. Interment to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bernie`s memory may be made to the Canadian Mental Health Association or the Mennonite Central Committee.
