SOPHIE OWEN Peacefully with her daughters at her side, Sophie Owen passed away on Thursday, August 10, 2017 at the Concordia Hospital. Sophie was born the eldest daughter to John and Anna Dolyniuk in Tyndall, Manitoba on October 1, 1926. Sophie will be greatly missed by her daughters, Barbara and Susan, grandson Brydon (Joyanne), great-grandson Kaden and great-granddaughter Zolie. She will also be sadly missed by her sister Stella of Kenora and her brother Bill of Selkirk. Sophie was predeceased by three of those whom she dearly loved - her son Bobby in 2015, her husband Tom in 2016 and her grandson Ryan in 2017. These were losses that she felt deeply, but she relied on her faith to see her through them. Sophie grew up on the family farm. In her early adult years she moved to Winnipeg to work at Eatons. During this time she was introduced to the love of her life, Thomas. She married him on September 6, 1952. They would go on to celebrate 63 blessed years together. When her children were in school Sophie went to work part time at the cash office at Sears Polo Park. It would be a career she greatly enjoyed. Many lifelong friendships were made during this time. She retired in the early 1990s to help look after her ailing mother. Sophie was an incredibly good wife and mother. Every day of her life she loved and supported (prayerfully and otherwise) her family, friends and anyone she saw in need. She was a woman of faith and a member of St. Ann's Roman Catholic Church since 1955. Many thanks to all those who visited and offered support and prayers during this sad time. Your caring was very much appreciated. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Ann's Roman Catholic Church, 271 Hampton Street in St. James at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, August 21, 2017 with Father Ceas Chmiel officiating. Interment and reception will follow at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. Flowers are gratefully declined. If so desired donations may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, R3T 9Z9, Rossbrook House, 658 Ross Avenue, Winnipeg, R3A 0M1 or to a charity of your choice. Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • So very sorry to hear of Sophie's passing. But, what a wonderful 90 years she lived. It was so beautiful to read her obituary & know she was just as we all knew her - kind, caring, & just a beautiful lady. She kept us so well informed when her daughter, Susan was so very sick, just a few years ago. The love she had for her daughters just shone through her. A beautiful & Lovely lady, with her Religion & Faith to match. You will be missed at Church, Sophie, but you are in such a beautiful place, now. Rest in Peace, Sophie. - Posted by: Connie Prynne (Friend at St. Ann's Church) on: Aug 20, 2017
