Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryBETTY KATHERINE THOMPSON October 13, 1928 - August 18, 2017 Peacefully on Friday, August 18, 2017, at Riverview Health Centre, our beloved mother and grandmother Betty Thompson (nee Waters) passed away at the age of 88. Betty will be lovingly remembered by her son David and daughter-in-law Laurie, son Gary (Connie), and grandchildren Amy (Alex) and Jordan (Alaina). Betty was predeceased by her loving husband Reg (2012), and brothers Roy (2016), Arthur (1988) and Billy (1930). Betty was born in Birtle, Manitoba and spent her early years there. After high school, Betty moved to Winnipeg. In 1950, Betty and Reg were married and moved to their first house on Banning Street, where they lived for the next 55 years. Betty was a stay at home mother and ably looked after the household. Betty and Reg were avid bowlers, bowling in several leagues at a time, and eventually organizing their own social league. Betty also loved to spend two weeks every summer at a lakeside cottage in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. She had many fond memories of good times at the lake with her family, and later with her grandchildren. She was always up for a game of badminton or lawn darts or a challenging crossword! In 2006, Betty and Reg moved to their second home on Waterford Avenue. Betty looked after Reg until he was admitted to Poseidon Health Care Centre. Betty remained on Waterford until 2013. Betty was a loving, considerate woman who approached life with a sense of humour and a depth of understanding and compassion. She was also an avid knitter who regularly donated her wonderful knitted goods to St. George's Anglican Church in Birtle. The family expresses their thanks and gratitude to the wonderful staff on the third floor of Riverview Health Centre for their kind and compassionate care, as well as Oakview Place where Betty resided for two years prior to Riverview. Celebrations of Betty's life have taken place at the Garden of Memories, Neil Bardal Funeral Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, CancerCare Manitoba or a charity of your choice. Rest in peace, Mom.
