CARL NACHTIGALL Surrounded by family, our father and Papa passed away peacefully on August 20, 2017 at the age of 76. He will be missed by his daughter Karen (Kent), son Rodney (Carmen), and son Jason (Sarah); grandchildren, Erika, Halla, Callie-Rae, Mackenna, Danielle, Mark, Kristine, and Regan; sisters, Lydia and Trudy; brothers, Herb (Mari-Jean) and Helmut (Janice); sisters-in-law, Elsie and Pat (Albert); and numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife and sweetheart, Stephie, his parents, August and Alwine, as well as his brothers, Paul and Rudy, and his sister Hedy. The most important thing in Carl's life was family. After the Second World War, he travelled to Canada with his father and siblings, and they remained close throughout their lives. He was very proud of his children and grandchildren's achievements. With words or deeds, he always said how much he loved them. Carl was a hard worker. He started an electrical contracting firm as a young man and ran it for his entire career. He made many good friends on the job, and always volunteered to help friends, family, or church. Those who knew Carl enjoyed his sense of humour, especially the infamous "Carl-jokes". The family would like to thank the staff of Holy Family Nursing Home for their compassion and support over the past two and a half years, and for taking such wonderful care of Carl. We will celebrate his life on Thursday, August 31, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Carl's memory to Holy Family Nursing Home, in care of Lubov SSMI Foundation, 1085 Main St., Winnipeg, MB R2W 3S1. "Dad and Papa, we will miss you and love you forever." Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at www.glenedenmemorial.ca Glen Eden Funeral Home & Cemetery 204-338-7111

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I am so saddened that we have a lost another of our family. I have many warm and happy memories of Onkel Carl. A strong man not always of many words and when he did speak I was always taken by his thoughtfulness and the wisdom that he possessed. And for some reason I am now replaying in my mind a particular incident from back in 1972 or 1973 when he was wiring the basement finish on Buckingham. I was ferrying materials back and forth for him and I curiously stuck a screwdriver into a light switch box that he had just told me to avoid because he had just made it "hot". Needless to say I got tickled by the current and dropped the screwdriver with a very audible yelp ... to which Onkel Carl looked up at me from another box that he was testing ... and he gazed at me for a few seconds ... and then he smiled, chuckled, and said "well, you won't do that again." And he was right, I never have. I take comfort knowing that he is with his Stephie and I'm sure that they are busy again tending to a lawn. Sending thoughts and prayers to Karen, Rod, and Jason and all the grandkids. - Posted by: Rolf Abt (Nephew) on: Aug 28, 2017
