METRO HARASYMCHUK Metro "Mitch" Harasymchuk, 75, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at Seven Oaks Hospital, on Saturday, August 26, 2017 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He was born March 13, 1942 to Anne (Fiarchuk) and William Harasymchuk on the home farm in Sandy Lake, Manitoba. On May 4, 1963 he married Marlyn Osterbeck in Antler, Saskatchewan. Mitch enjoyed gardening, growing the biggest sunflowers, fishing, camping, visiting with friends and everything that came his way in life. He especially enjoyed many years of volunteering at Holy Family Nursing Home, and going to the Wellness Centre. His greatest joy in this last year of his life was spending time with his great-grandson Nolan Doucette, since his birth eight months ago. Prior to retirement, Mitch worked for the City of Winnipeg for 25 years in the Water and Waste Department. Survivors include his wife Marlyn; his two children, Marty (Janine) and Michele (Ed) Stechkewich; five grandchildren, Caitlin (Tim) Doucette, Jay Harasymchuk, Megan Harasymchuk, Rylee Stechkewich and Paige Stechkewich; two sisters, Mary Usick and Barbara Osadec (Lawrence); and lifelong friends, John and Joyce Persowich, and Evelyn Olson and Garry, and numerous other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Stephen, and his grandson Brenden Stechkewich. The family would like to give a special thank you to Mitch's physician, Dr. Peter Bially, and the 5 unit 5 and ICU staff at Seven Oaks Hospital, for their compassionate care. A time of gathering and remembrance will be held on Saturday, September 2, 2017 beginning at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home and Cemetery, 4477 Main Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba. • Metro and I grew up and attended school together in Sandy Lake, MB. He was a bit of a prankster, as I remember in those youthful days. In later more recent years I often ran into him and Marlyn at bingo at Club Regent Casino. Rest in Peace friend. - Posted by: Vicki Lazaruk (school class mate) on: Aug 31, 2017
