MARGARET CONNELLY It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our dearly loved mom, wife, grandmother, Gogo, aunt and friend, Margaret Connelly, who left us on the early morning of Tuesday, August 29, 2017. Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of 60 years, Peter Connelly; son Peter; daughters, Shona (Peter Muir), Gillian (Nick Barnes); grandchildren, Sheena (Josh Parkinson), Sean Connelly, Scotty Muir (Laura), Montana Muir, Anissa Barnes, Callum Barnes; great-grandchildren, Piper Parkinson and Bohdan Parkinson, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends in Canada and Britain. She was predeceased by her parents; sisters, Ackie, Wynn; and brother Andrew. Mom was born January 11, 1935 in Gretna, Scotland to Andrew and Maggie Carnan. She lost her dad at a young age and was raised by her mom and dear sister Ackie. She was likely a handful growing up as she was in her adult life! She went to school at the Dumfries Academy in Scotland. Upon graduation, she moved to Glasgow to attend "the dough school" much to the chagrin of her mom and sister. It was in Glasgow, at the students union, that she met Dad. They married October 5, 1957. Mom and Dad immigrated to Canada in January 1961, with Peter and Shona in tow. They built a life together in Winnipeg that included daughter Gillian, and shared a wonderful journey. They travelled the world and had many happy vacations with the family and their dear friends Vera and John MacDougall. Mom's "sanity" was found in Sarasota, Florida, where they vacationed for 40 winters! She was a devoted wife who together with our dad built a loving home. She was so proud of Dad and all he accomplished. Mom was the center of the family, ensuring we were steeped in tradition, keeping our Scottish heritage alive. Mom loved to entertain and be the center of attention. She was an amazing cook and we all wished we had paid attention when she gave input in the kitchen. Her shortbread, Sunday roast beef dinners and chocolate birthday cakes were legendary. She was determined, funny, warm and outspoken. You knew what she was thinking without ever asking. She was our champion! She shared in our successes, lifted us up through our challenges and most importantly loved us unconditionally. We knew she was proud of us and she was not shy about telling anyone who would listen. Mom never sat still, which meant we never sat still! Most of all she loved her family. She was christened Gogo by Scotty and that is how she was known! She was a doting grandmother; whether that meant taking the grandchildren to the Nutcracker, Teddy Bear Picnic, rubbing their backs, playing in the pool, or teaching them how to bake at camp Gogo. She spoiled them with love and was adamant that they had impeccable manners. The TFG's will forever be at the front door protecting grandpa. She loved her wee Sheensie, Seansie Boy, Golden Boy, Noodle, wee Montat, Cally, Tinkerbell and Boh. She loved her Stars! There will always be a void in our lives and our hearts, but so many happy memories we will always share. We would like to thank Dr. Terry Babick and Dr. Andrea Babick whose care, compassion and spiritual guidance helped Mom in this final part of her journey. We would also like to thank Kari Gagne for her amazing care of our mom and support to our family, mom's Angels on St John's Ward and the staff at Holy Family Home who embraced our mom as their own. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul The Apostle Church, 2400 Portage Avenue with Rev. Erick Giddins and Rev. Gerry Ward officiating. Honourary pallbearers will be the grandchildren. In memory of Mom, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 120 Donald St., Winnipeg, Manitoba R3C 4G2 or Holy Family Home, 165 Aberdeen Ave., Winnipeg, Manitoba R2W 1T9.
