GREGORY (HARRY) FINKEWICH January 28, 1911 - August 27, 2017 Peacefully, Gregory Finkewich of Glenella, MB, passed away on August 27, 2017 at the age of 106 years and seven months, at Country Meadows in Neepawa, MB. Gregory grew up in Derewyne, Ukraine and married Katherine Yacenya in 1928, coming to Canada in 1939. They first settled in Alonsa. Dad set out on foot to find work. As a hired hand on the farms, he learned how to farm and bought a quarter south of Glenella and lived there until 103 years old. His passion was farming and he was very proud of his great accomplishments - getting some top prices for grain and fat steers. He was happy and contented farming into his 90s. He made two trips to Ukraine with his wife and daughter, Olga. In December, 2014, after a brief stay in the Neepawa Hospital he was moved to Country Meadows. Gregory is survived by his daughters: Sophia Plantz of Collinsville, USA and Olga Duncan of Glenella; grandchildren: Vince Plantz, Sandy Christiensen, Fae Cisyk and Glenda Finkewich; great-granddaughter-in-law Sherri Duncan (friend John Stutsky); daughter-in-law Laura Mitchler; and eight great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Katherine; son Tony; grandson Clayton Duncan; sons-in-law, Terry Duncan and Jim Plantz, and a brother and two sisters in Ukraine. Memorial Service will be held on Friday, September 8, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the Glenella Hall with Rita Friesen officiating. Interment will follow at the Goodland Cemetery. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to Country Meadows Personal Care Home or a charity of one's choice. Rest in Peace, Dad. It's well earned.
