GERARD (GERRY) JOHANNES ROOZENDAAL In the early hours of August 25, 2017, our beloved father and grandfather, Gerard Roozendaal, passed away at the Carberry Personal Care Home, in Carberry, Manitoba. Born in 1926 in Wervershoof, Holland to Johannes and Catharina, Gerry was the youngest of six children. At the age of 22, Gerry left Holland to attend Seminary School in Washington State. After five years of education and adventure, he returned to Holland, before embarking on a new adventure in Canada. In the spring of 1961, Gerry graduated from Law School at the University of Manitoba. In July, he married his sweetheart, Helen Burgess. He began his legal career in Winnipeg with Pollock and Company before venturing out to a small firm in Gladstone. In 1963, Gerry took over the Law Practice in Carberry, where he and Helen began to set down roots. In 1970, Gerry was sworn in as Family Court Judge. In 1975, he accepted a position with the Churchill Community Development board in Northern Manitoba. In 1978, Gerry left his law practice in Churchill and the family returned to Carberry. Gerry went on to work briefly at Fox Memorial Hospital and then Carnation Foods, where he retired in 1993. Gerry was a gentle soul with a kind heart and joyful sense of humour. Everyone was met with a friendly greeting and, if he couldn't remember your name, a nickname. His love of music presented itself often in sudden outbursts of unabashed singing, whether leading his church's congregation in song or joining in while his wife gave music lessons. Gerry embraced life and met every challenge head on, with a smile and twinkle in his eye. Gerry leaves behind his children, Angela, John (Rebecca) and Paul (Nicola); as well as his grandchildren, Zach, Mya, Robbie and Ben. He is predeceased by his wife Helen (2013) and daughter Monica (1971). Funeral service will take place Friday, September 15, 11:00 a.m. at Our Lathdy of Assumption Catholic Church, with a luncheon to follow at the United Church Hall in Carberry.
