NORMA HOPE ODDLEIFSON Peacefully on September 13, 2017, at the Arborg Personal Care Home, Norma passed away at the age of 89 years. She is survived by daughters, Judy, (Karvel) Karvelson, Marlene (Barry) Zagozewski and Shelley (Tom) Bjornson; daughter-in-law Linda Oddleifson; sisters, Hazel Sigvaldason and Maria (Don) Keller; 14 grandchildren whom she dearly loved and 16 great-grandchildren (her "bonuses"). Norma was predeceased by her beloved husband Sammy and sons, Craig and Curtis; parents, Steini and Ethel Thorsteinson; brothers, John and Leonard Thorsteinson. Born on August 25, 1928, Mom spent her childhood in Geysir. She met dad while working as a cook in a lumber camp. They were married on September 14, 1946 and settled on the family farm near Arborg. Our life on the farm was a happy, busy time. Mom was a fabulous cook and the house was always filled with wonderful smells. Her baking won her many prizes at the annual fair over the years. Our pantry was always filled with jams, jellies, preserves and pickles. Mom was also a skilled knitter and the whole family benefitted from her creations. She was community-minded and was a member of the Unitarian Ladies Aid, the Hospital Auxiliary and the Agricultural Society. A great hockey fan, mom spent hours at the rink cheering on, first, Curtis and later, her grandsons. Many thanks to Linda and the staff at the Arborg PCH for the kind, loving care they gave mom over the past five years; and very special thanks to grandson Daniel for his constant devotion to his amma. In accordance with mom's wishes, cremation has taken place and the family will gather for a private interment.
