TILLIE BIRD (HARLOS) 1918 - 2017 Born Tolka Tymczyshyn, June 30, 1918 in the municipality of Bifrost, Manitoba; our tenacious Mother passed away on August 25 , 2017 at the Saanich Peninsula Hospital, Extended Care Unit in North Saanich, B.C., with her granddaughter Brenda and great- granddaughter Samantha at her side. Tillie was married to William Edward Harlos (predeceased 1964) and Donald Bird (predeceased 1986). Tillie lived significant portions of her adult working life in Winnipeg and then Calgary, retiring to a prim little house in Winnipeg in 1967; faithfully supported by her brother Nick. Tillie moved to assisted living in Sidney, B.C. in 2011, cared for principally by her son Ken and granddaughter Brenda. Tillie leaves her children, Joyce Potter (Steve), of San Diego, CA; Ken Harlos (Jennifer), of North Saanich, B.C; and Gerald Harlos (Janice) of Fonthill, Ontario. All of her 10 grandchildren knew her well, loved her, and learned how to cook with her. Her 16 great-grandchildren were exposed to a life well lived and worth remembering. We smile at the memory of her 98th birthday bash, attended by many. Our Mother worked hard and was productive every day of her long life. She enjoyed casinos and traveling to visit family and grandchildren. She was an avid gardener and known as "Mrs. Clean". Her house was always spotless clean, with furniture and rugs suffering the odd bleach stain. We learned many of life's important lessons from our Mom. A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 23, 2017 at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St., West St. Paul, MB. Reception to follow.
